Little Mix admit they’re ‘pushing each other’s’ solo projects after Jesy Nelson quit group
Too soon, too soon… Little Mix sidestepped the exit of Jesy Nelson in their first interview of the year as a three-piece.
The Shout Out To My Ex singers failed to expand on her departure as they picked up the ‘game-changers in music’ gong at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards. Jesy quit Little Mix in December, citing the ‘pressure’ of girl band fame.
Reflecting on the changes to the group, Jade Thirlwall said: ‘I’m not saying that we’re codependent, but we do heavily rely on each other. So it’s been healthy to take a step back and think, “What do I want?” As we come together and work together this year, we’ll have an even better and healthier relationship with that perspective.’
The 28-year-old admitted that she, too, is thinking about solo stardom. ‘This time’s taught me that I am still figuring out who I am, too,’ said Jade.
‘It’s beautiful that we’re still a group, but we want to help push each other to do our own thing. It’s like a new dawn of Little Mix.’
Perrie Edwards, 27, agreed, saying: ‘We’ve always had each other. It’s always Little Mix — it’s us.’
And Jade insists their core message is still unity. ‘We’ve shown that women standing together works, even with all the obstacles in our way,’ she added.
‘Right from the beginning, we were the dark horse on The X Factor, and no-one expected us to do well. We grew and became adult women together.
‘It’s impactful to show others that you can have longevity, you can break barriers, win awards and break records on the back of sticking together.’
The Glamour Women of the Year Awards: The Gamechangers is available to view via glamourmagazine.co.uk on Thursday, March 11, at 7pm.
New romance? Jessie does it like a dude…
Standfirst: … after paparazzi pics were bang bang out of order
Jessie J ordered a new hunk to go with her side salad as she unveiled a new lockdown romance.
The Bang Bang singer has found love again, four months after her yo-yo romance with Hollywood hunk Channing Tatum finally hit the skids.
The 32-year-old took the humorous route when she decided to go Instagram official with Max Pham Nguyen after being unhappy with paparazzi photos that first put them on the radar.
They included a shot of him having a taste of the salad on her fork outside an LA restaurant, under a headline describing dancer Max as Jessie’s ‘male pal’.
Taking the big reveal into her own hands, she shared her own loved-up snaps from their budding romance.
They included a romantic picnic, cuddling in the kitchen and making stupid faces at the camera. She added: ‘PS: He isn’t my male pal.’
Unhappy with the LA pap photos, Jessie joked: ‘The pics?! Yoooooo!!!,’ adding a string of laughter and crying emojis.
She said they made her look like Lord Farquaad’s dad ‘growing out an old hair cut’ or ‘an old man that owns a boat’.
And, posting her chosen selection, she wrote: ‘Max and I thought you guys deserved some better picture options…’
Jessie and 40-year-old Channing, star of the Magic Mike films, first split up in 2019, then again last April when she described her world as ‘single life in a pandemic…’ during an online chat with fans.
Emily in Paris? Tina takes the oui
It’s Emily In… the back garden. Lily Collins didn’t need a red carpet to dazzle at the Golden Globes. She lit up the event from her Hollywood pad, wearing a retro-inspired cutaway gown.
Perhaps it was just as well the Emily In Paris star couldn’t attend in person after her Marmite comedy-drama was ruthlessly mocked by Globes hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
Lily, 31, lost to Schitt’s Creek star Catherine O’Hara in the category for best actress in a television series — musical or comedy.
Tina, 50, joked she ‘couldn’t wait’ to find out which category Lily’s Netflix show came under.
In any case the actress, who is engaged to film writer Charlie McDowell, was happy to make the most of her backyard after flogging her four-bedroom Beverly Hills mansion for $13.5million (£9.7million) — up a million and a half on what she paid for it five years ago.
Perfect ten! British stars sweep the Globes
Britain has equalled last year’s record for its best performance at the Golden Globes this century.
In TV, Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin won for The Crown, John Boyega for Small Axe and Anya Taylor-Joy — who has British-Argentine-US citizenship — won for her role in The Queen’s Gambit.
Two more acting wins were in films: Sacha Baron Cohen for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Rosamund Pike in I Care A Lot and Daniel Kaluuya in Judas And The Black Messiah.
The Crown won best TV drama series and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm was best film musical or comedy.
Completing the list of ten victories was musician and composer Atticus Ross, a joint winner in best original score, for the animated film Soul.
And the awards went to…

It’s your move, Netflix! Anya would love another Gambit
Here’s a conversational gambit… Golden Globe winner Anya Taylor-Joy would love to return as chess prodigy Beth Harmon.
Netflix hit The Queen’s Gambit won two gongs at the Globes, including Anya’s for best actress in a limited series.
And the British-Argentine star told Entertainment Tonight: ‘I adore the entire team that made it and I would jump at the chance to work with them.’
However, she was taken aback at first when fans clamoured for more chess action. ‘Not to disappoint anybody but we just never thought about it,’ she said. ‘You see her grow, you leave her in a good place. So we were genuinely surprised when people were like, “Where’s season two?”’
Anya, 24, said Beth’s complexities made her enjoyable to play. The orphan’s unusual upbringing stopped her seeing her gender ‘as something that told her what she could or couldn’t want’, she added.
Zoom awards a mute point for Daniel
Anyone writing the obituary of red carpet showbiz awards had better put down their pen after a Golden Globes shambles proved there is Zoom for improvement when it comes to doing events remotely.
Things got off to a shaky start when the evening’s first prize was given to Daniel Kaluuya for Judas And The Black Messiah.
But his acceptance speech, delivered over Zoom from his home, was inaudible.
Presenter Laura Dern looked mortified as she said: ‘As you can see, we unfortunately have a bad connection.’
Luckily, the British star’s sound was restored as he joked: ‘You’re doing me dirty! Is this on? Can you hear me now?’ Daniel, 32, was then able to launch into his full thank-you speech.
Dan calls for more award diver-Schitt-y
Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy was among celebrities who used the Golden Globes stage to criticise the lack of diversity among the awards show’s voters.
Dan, 37, said: ‘In the spirit of inclusion, I hope that this time next year, this ceremony reflects the true breadth and diversity of the film and television being made today, because there is so much more to be celebrated.’
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), an organisation of 87 international journalists, has faced criticism for having no black members.
Sacha Baron Cohen, 49, prodded the HFPA during one of his acceptance speeches, pointing out it was ‘all white’. And This Is Us star Sterling K Brown, 44, used an intentional slip of the tongue to make the point. He said: ‘It is great to be black at the Golden Globes… back at the Golden Globes.’
Eddie: I’ve no Axel to grind over roles
Away from the Golden Globes, Eddie Murphy feels he has bucked the trend of black talent being overlooked in Hollywood.
The 59-year-old — who is next in Coming 2 America on Amazon and is to reprise his role as Axel Foley for Beverly Hills Cop 4 — said: ‘In terms of my work and my career, race has never been an issue. I’ve been making movies for 40 years and never once could I not get a movie made because I was black. I transcended that stuff.’
However, he told Radio Times: ‘But that’s not to say I walked out of heaven and into Hollywood. I’m a black man who was born in America… growing up in this country, there’s no way you’re not going to have to face some s***.’
Sarah certainly wins best supporting cast
Forget break a leg! Sarah Paulson broke her right arm — but was able to style it out with a little help from Prada. The Ratched star, 46, whose serial killer nurse lost out to The Crown’s Emma Corrin, refused to have her Prada gown murdered by the injury.
Sarah’s stylist Karla Welch posted her handiwork on Instagram, saying: ‘When you’re Lady Paulson, you get a custom Prada cast to go with your custom Prada dress.’
Kim’s intruder scare as man crashes gates
Kim Kardashian’s nightmarish year continues with an intruder scare at her Hollywood home.
Just as she is planning her $2billion divorce from Kanye West, a man got into the property in an attempt to see her, claiming Kim, 40, was his ‘wife’.
Cops told TMZ the 24-year-old crashed through the gates of her Hidden Hills community, ‘trying to pay her a visit’.
He was intercepted by Kim’s security team during the incident on Wednesday evening.
The man was booked for trespassing and later released. Security has been a major concern for Kim since she was robbed of $6million of jewels after being tied up at gunpoint during Paris Fashion Week in 2016.
Daylight robe-ery… why bother getting dressed at all, asks RiRi
Rihanna is spring-ing into action with her latest sizzling undies drop.
Reclining on a sunbed as fans clamour for new music, RiRi looked sensational as she modelled her new range of Savage X Fenty knick-knacks. And the 33-year-old admits she only occasionally gets dressed these days.
‘Robes are my new uniform,’ said RiRi. ‘Comfortable, flexible and easy. You can have thin ones, thick ones, why do anything else?
‘You’re at home, no make-up, no weave. Chilling and doing what I have to do. Of course, I’ll put on clothes for a Zoom meeting every now and then.’
Music’s new supergroup will have the XCX factor
Charli XCX has rustled up another star collaboration after announcing she is ‘forming a supergroup’ with The 1975 and No Rome. All three acts have been teasing a possible collab for several months, and now Charli seems to be confirming it.
She tweeted: ‘V excited to be forming a supergroup with @no_rome and @the1975…’ The 28-year-old Boys singer has previously had hits with Rita Ora and Christine And The Queens.
All rise! James return with their 16th album
Fans of James might want to Sit Down… The Manchester band are dropping an impressive 16th album, called All The Colours Of You, in June. Lead singer Tim Booth explained the cheery first line of the album’s opening track Zero — ‘We’re all gonna die’.
He said: ‘With all the s*** that went down in 2020, this was a miraculous conception and another big jump forward for us on the back of the last three albums. ‘I hope it reflects the colours of these crazy times.’
