‘Disappointed’ Caleb Plant Breaks Silence Since Loss to Canelo Alvarez

Last month, Canelo Alvarez hammered Caleb Plant to become the undisputed super-middleweight king. The Mexican star walked in as a true favorite in this collision and Plant was a big underdog. Despite not being the favorite to win, Plant showed heart and put on a good show for the hardcore fans.

In the end, he had to settle with his very first pro-boxing loss, that too, at the biggest of stages.

Recently, the former IBF super-middleweight champ, who was in a chat with FightHype, finally broke the silence on this vicious loss and gave an honest take on his performance.

“You know, definitely disappointed. You know, I came to win. I didn’t come to just. Like I said. Just wanted the outcome, but I know I had a good show,” he said.

Plant, the lanky fighter, had an advantage with his physical stats in this fight. That said, he effectively employed his jabs to keep Canelo at distance. However, the p4p king figured out the same, and he attacked Plant’s body.

Canelo cut the distance well to go after Plant. But ‘Sweethands’ didn’t let Canelo Alvarez take complete control, and he kept making things interesting.

Because of his tall frame, Plant remained successful in not getting hit on his chin. But eventually, the body shots created a dent in him, and with this, he began to bend in the later rounds. Hence, Alvarez finally got an opening in round 11, wherein he dropped Plant twice to finally finish the bout via a T/KO.

Where did Caleb Plant fall short against Canelo Alvarez?

Although Plant had jabs as his prime weapon, it still wasn’t enough for him to keep up with Canelo’s pace. Compubox later revealed the punch stats of the duo.

Alvarez was way ahead in terms of power punches, too. That said, even if the fight had gone to the judges, the Mexican fighting star would have emerged as a clear winner.

Plant definitely fell short on a few points, but he made sure to give his absolute best in the biggest fight of his life.
