“Rome Was Not Built in a Week”- Georges St-Pierre Comments on Kamaru Usman’s Current Status

Kamaru Usman is one of the deadliest fighters in the UFC right now, if not the deadliest. ” The Nigerian Nightmare’ is no.1 in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings and is the current UFC Welterweight champion of the world.

Usman has cemented his throne in the UFC’s 170 pounds division with not one, not two, but 5 consecutive title defenses after securing it from Tyron Woodley at UFC 235.

The Nigerian has pulled all this off despite fighting against the likes of Jorge Masvidal and Colby “Chaos” Covington.

As things go, these feats of “The Nigerian Nightmare” have many in the MMA world believing that he’s on his way to becoming the “Greatest of all time” in the Welterweight division.

One of them is Georges St-Pierre himself, the undisputed legend of the UFC’s Welterweight division.

The French-Canadian Karate fighter, not only boasts of 9 title defenses but a consecutive 13 fight win streak in the Welterweight division as well, which truly makes him the G.O.A.T. Of the 170-pound division.

In an interview with Sporf, “Rush” mentioned, “Well, ‌he’s‌ ‌on‌ ‌his‌ ‌way.”

“Rome was not built in a week. It took years. So, same thing with Kamaru Usman. He’s on his way. He’s doing fantastic and I’m a big fan of him. I truly believe, right now, he’s probably the best fighter right now, and probably the best active fighter in the UFC. He’s doing very well. Only the future will tell us.” The former UFC Welterweight division champ said.

Indeed, Kamaru Usman (20-1) has proven himself not once, but 18 times, consecutively. This Endeavour of his is second to only legends like Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva.

What’s ahead for Kamaru Usman and Georges St-Pierre

As of now, “The Nigerian Nightmare” is not scheduled anywhere in the UFC’s official calendar.

Although many fighters in and out of the UFC have called their shots on Kamaru Usman, there’s one name that keeps clinging- Leon Edwards.

After Jorge Masvidal pulled out of his fight against Edwards, “Rocky”, unsurprisingly, took to Twitter to call out Kamaru Usman.

As for Georges St-Pierre,  “Rush” prefers to stay in retirement, even after getting a call from Dana White himself.
