Kate Garraway revealed she was dumped by a famous rock star who she dated before meeting her husband Derek Draper as she joined Piers Morgan on Life Stories tonight.

The Good Morning Britain presenter joined her former colleague on the ITV show for his last episode before she takes over the helm.

The duo talked at length about Derek, with Kate giving an update on his health, and the conversation soon turned to the newsreader’s relationship history.

Kate explained that Derek was the only boyfriend not break up with her, sharing: ‘I’ve always been dumped. I’ve never ended a relationship.’

Piers asked: ‘How many times are we talking?’

‘We’re in double figures,’ Kate shared. ‘See you if you’d known the bar was set so low you’d have had a double crack wouldn’t you?’

Piers went on to probe Kate about how she cryptically wrote that she had dated an actor in her book.

‘No, a performer,’ Kate corrected him.

Continuing to dig, Piers proceeded: ‘A singer? A famous one?’

Kate disclosed that her mystery man is a ‘musician of sorts’ and he that he’s now famous, however refused to confirm his identity.

Elsewhere during her interview with Piers, Kate said that her husband has ‘moments of clarity’ as he continues to recover from Covid.

Derek was taken to hospital in March 2020 after contracting the virus. He was then placed in a medically induced coma to give his body time to recover from the virus, but did not wake up until several months later with his body severely ravaged from the disease.

However, Derek continued to defy the odds and was released from hospital in April allowing him to continue recovery at home with Kate and their two children Billy and Darcey.

Kate revealed how Derek was able to tell Piers ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’ on the phone the night before they recorded the interview special last month.

‘It’s moments like that which make you realise he is there, and we have had others. He will turn to me and say “I love you”,’ she said. ‘He is there, he has fought so hard to stay in this world and I’m not giving up on him, ever.

‘He will have moments of clarity, then it’s like he disappears but then he finds a voice.’

She added: ‘Covid has devastated him, from the top of his head to the tip of his toe. His digestive system, his liver, his heart, his nervous system. We’re pretty sure the inflammation did pass through his brain. Fundamentally he is in a terrible state, but look: he’s alive.’

Piers Morgan’s Life Stories with Kate Garraway is available to stream on ITV Hub.
