Sebastian Fundora Beats Sergio Garcia via Unanimous Decision in WBC Super Welterweight Title Eliminator

Sebastian Fundora can now challenge Jermell Charlo for the WBC super welterweight title after beating Sergio Garcia in a 12-rounds slugfest. The win didn’t come easily and ‘Towering Inferno’ had to fight his way through all the adversaries.

Given all the credits, Fundora faced a tough fight against Garcia and didn’t hesitate to admit that. Following the lengthy collision, Fundora scored a unanimous decision win, with three judges scoring the fight 115-113, 117-11, 118-110 in his favor. Here’s a deeper look at what happened.

Super welterweight action at its top

Sebastian Fundora looked gigantic before Sergio Garcia, as he could hit him from a vast range. Utilizing his height and reach to the fullest, Fundora stalked his opponent in the first round and didn’t offer much action. Garcia rightly tried to close the gap and even attacked Fundora’s body. However, Fundora replicated his dominance by pulling off a left hand out of nowhere. It shook Garcia to an extent before he revived himself in the scrap. Well, the road to an interesting fight was set after the close first round.

Relying on his physical advantage, Fundora feigned a lot of shots in the next two rounds. However, it didn’t stop Garcia from moving forward. ‘El Nino’ didn’t hesitate to brawl. And despite failing to connect a proper shot, he charged up Fundora with several tries. Meanwhile, round four saw both men attain some minor moments of success.

A sharp left uppercut from Fundora cracked up Garcia’s head, but in response, the Spaniard hit a right hand and hurt Fundora. With blood coming out of both men, we saw an interesting round five arrive. Halfway across, Fundora and Garcia seed out of energy, but they kept landing the big shots. Round six looked similar, with both the contenders pouring everything in their tank to win. But they were destined for more action.

Sebastian Fundora vs Sergio Garcia clearly lived up to the hype

The Towering Inferno’ Fundora retained his dominance in the next two rounds. While Garcia defended him pretty legitimately, Fundora’s physical advantage continued favoring him. The fast-paced fight slowed down a bit in round nine after the fighters became more technical with their game plan. Instead of chasing for a KO, they took time and used fake jabs to grab hold of their potential wins.

While Garcia tried to brawl it out later, Fundora’s massive height gave him an edge yet again as they made it to the final rounds. ‘El Nino’ Garcia planted a brutal right uppercut in round 11 and baffled his opposition. But Fundora regained his grip with cracking shots in the final round. But as we saw the final seconds arrive, Garcia made Fundora wobble with the powerful shots. After 12 rounds of war, rightly raised his hands to challenge for the super welterweight world title next.
