Holly Willoughby had a look of disgust during Monday’s This Morning after seeing an American family pose with guns for their annual Christmas card.

American congressman Thomas Massie tweeted a picture of himself and his family posing with military-style rifles, just days after four teenagers were killed in a shooting at a Michigan high school.

The Republican was condemned for the insensitive act online and the 40-year-old presenter was horrified by the ‘unbelievable’ act.

Journalist Matthew Wright weighed in on the conversation on the daytime programme, and said: ‘You have to contextualise it, there are an awful lot of people in America who love guns.

‘They think it’s their duty as free citizens to be prepared to hold their government in check.’

However, Dancing On Ice host Holly held a different opinion, and said: ‘It is so shocking for us to hear.

‘You hear that and it seems like you’re talking about a different time and a different world,’ Holly told the show.

‘But this is a reality, this is what’s happening. That is a family Christmas card, with the caption “Merry Christmas PS Santa, please bring ammo.”‘

The weapons on display include guns resembling an M60 machine gun, AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and a Thompson submachine gun.

American activist Fred Guttenberg, who protests against gun violence in the US, responded to Massie with a picture of his 14-year-old daughter, who was killed during the 2018 Parkland school shooting in Florida, along with a photo of her gravestone.

He wrote: ‘Since we are sharing family photos, here are mine. One is the last photo I ever took of Jaime, the other is where she is buried because of the Parkland school shooting.

‘The Michigan school shooter and his family used to take photos like yours as well.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
