Oscar Piastri To Represent Alpine F1 in Growing Ensemble of F2 Stars for Abu Dhabi Young Drivers Test

Is it safe to say that Alpine F1 reserve driver, Oscar Piastri, is an F1 world champion in the making? Definitely. The Australian is already on the verge of securing the 2021 F2 world championship title only a year after accomplishing the same feat in F3.

If indeed Piastri secures the championship title in Abu Dhabi, he would become only the third driver in the history of motorsports to win F3 and F2 titles over consecutive years; the other two drivers being George Russell and Charles Leclerc.

What a weekend hey? Firstly, I’m glad that both Enzo and Theo will be ok after the crash yesterday. 2 wins, 2 fastest laps, another pole position, and the teams’ championship for @PREMA_Team. I’d say that’s a good weekend

Unfortunately, despite putting up such an ecstatic show in the last couple of years, the high-flying Piastri finds himself without a seat in F1 even though he remained of the prime candidates to replace Antonio Giovinazzi for quite a while.

To his poor luck, Alfa Romeo are finding themselves in quite a financial ruffle and in desperate need of money to steady the ship. Hence, Piastri’s wealthy F2 rival, Guanyu Zhou, looked more appealing to the Sauber-led outfit.

Oscar Piastri with a huge Alpine F1 opportunity in Abu Dhabi

Piastri may have to wait a year or two to secure a full-time seat in Formula 1. However, in a week, the Australian is all set to get a taste of driving an F1 car. Alpine officially revealed that Piastri would take part in the rookie test in Abu Dhabi following the F1 event later this weekend.

What’s more, Laurent Rossi also affirmed that the soon-to-be F2 world champion will also work with Alpine on the development of the 2022 F1 car apart from being the reserve driver.

Oscar has had a fantastic Formula 2 season this year, again showing his class, and this Young Driver Test appearance is well earned,” Rossi said according to Motorsport.

This test will be part of Oscar’s ongoing development as he prepares to become the team’s Reserve Driver for 2022, to aid and assist Fernando and Esteban and our development teams on and off the track.”

Overall, the future is consolidating quite well for Piastri who could well replace Fernando Alonso in coming years and team up with Esteban Ocon. But, can Piastri manage to impress other F1 teams in the upcoming rookie test and garner more attention?
