Furious Janet Street-Porter goes in on Boris Johnson’s ’embarrassing’ police uniform: ‘What he was announcing was incredibly serious’

Janet Street-Porter had a few choice words over Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s police uniform, and branded his choice of clothing as ’embarrassing’.

Mr Johnson wore a police hat and jacket as he observed a dawn drugs raid on a house in Liverpool by Merseyside Police on Monday, as he laid out a 10-year strategy to tackle drug-related offences.

The broadcaster, 74, didn’t hold back when the rest of the panel – which also included Coleen Nolan, Ruth Langsford, and Brenda Edwards – discussed the Prime Minister’s choice of attire on Tuesday’s Loose Women.

‘It was a photo opportunity. What he was announcing was incredibly serious, costed a huge amount of money that will impact hundreds of thousands of people who are long-term drug addicts in this country.

‘So to dress up as an extra from Z-Cars or Line of Duty is frankly embarrassing.’

Ruth quickly challenged Janet’s statement and questioned if he hadn’t dressed like that, nobody would be talking about it today.

‘But once again, it’s all about Boris. He just comes across as a cross between a clown and Norman Wisdom,’ Janet quipped.

Coleen also suggested that the current Prime Minister isn’t doing a good job in getting people to take him seriously and believes the whole thing to be a little ‘disturbing.’

‘He’s in charge of the country, and that’s what scares me. I look at him and get embarrassed,’ said Coleen.

It was a bit of a coincidence Janet referenced the popular detective drama series, as the show’s creator Jed Mercurio also trolled Mr Johnson on Twitter.

He wrote: ‘Thank you for submitting your audition for the next series of #LineofDuty but we’re looking for a character with at least one redeeming moral principle and a performance that places even just a scintilla of doubt in the audience’s mind that he might not be totally bent.’
