If, like us, you’ve already binged through Kevin Hart’s new series True Story, you’ve probably got whiplash from all those plot twists.
Kevin, 42, takes the lead in the Netflix drama, a limited series, which follows stand-up comedian The Kid who lands himself in serious trouble during a wild night out in his hometown of Philadelphia.
From there, the twists and turns keep throwing the story through a loop as The Kid attempts to fix the messy situation under the glare of the spotlight.
But, how much of True Story is based on a true story?
*** SPOILERS ***
Given that the story involves murder and crime in a seedy underworld, we’re going to go out on a whim and say this is mostly fiction.
It’s clear that, to an extent, Kevin has based The Kid on himself with the character being a world-renowned stand-up comedian performing sold-out shows and being paid $25million (£19m) to star in superhero blockbusters with Chris Hemsworth.
Like The Kid, Kevin also hails from Philadelphia and went through a highly-publicised divorce from first wife Torrei Hart. The real life comic is father to four children, including son Hendrix, 14, while his character is dad to teen son Christian who, dare we say, bears a striking resemblance to Hendrix.
However, that’s pretty much where the buck stops in terms of similarities, as The Kid’s character gets pretty dark with murders galore and a fierce temper.
Will there be a True Story season 2?
Netflix has billed True Story as a limited series with just seven episodes but, is there any plot left to explore further?
*** MAJOR SPOILERS ***
The story wraps up pretty neatly; The Kid is made to believe that he has woken up in his hotel room next to a dead woman after a wild night of partying. With the help of his brother Carlton (Wesley Snipes), they enlist a hitman, Ari, to dispose of the body. However, when Ari attempts to blackmail him for $6m (£4.6m), Kid ends up killing the criminal to ensure his secret is kept safe.

However, it later transpired that the whole thing was a set-up orchestrated by Carlton; the ‘dead’ woman was only pretending to be dead so that Carlton could extort money out of Kid via Ari. Only, the plan went wrong when Kid actually killed hitman Ari for real.
In the final episode, Kid ends up killing both of Ari’s brothers – who had been on his back in search of their missing sibling – as well as his own brother Carlton.
In another small, final twist, Kid is blackmailed by one of his closest confidantes Hersch (Will Catlett) to keep his secret safe yet again.

The change in dynamic between Kid and Herch is possibly the only way True Story could continue, but so far, Kevin and the showrunners haven’t breathed a word about another season.
However, as we’ve seen with other limited series such as Big Little Lies, anything is possible.
