BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty was forced to apologise to her radio listeners after a guest swore live on air.

During Tuesday’s instalment on BBC Radio 5 Live, Naga invited writer Gina Martin on to the show to discuss a joke made about Taylor Swift on the new Netflix series Ginny and Georgia.

It comes after the Love Story hitmaker hit out at the programme after they seemingly mocked her love life.

During the season finale of the comedy, the main characters Ginny Miller (Antonia Gentry) and her mother Georgia (Brianne Howey) had a disagreement about relationships.

After her mum quizzed her on whether she had broken up with her boyfriend, Ginny hit back: ‘What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.’

Taylor has since hit out at the joke on social media. Sharing a screenshot of the joke, the pop star penned: ‘Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back.

‘How about we stop degrading hard-working women by defining this horse s**t as FuNnY. Also, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you. Happy Women’s History Month I guess.’ (sic)

Speaking about the topic on Naga’s radio show, Gina accidentally let slip a swear while during the discussion.

When asked about what her reaction was to the joke, Gina began: ‘I’m not surprised by the joke being made, but I’m also not really surprised by her reaction.’

She went on to add that she ‘thinks it’s great’ that Taylor is calling the show out because nowadays, especially with social media you can generate a conversation about a certain topic when you live tweet about a TV programme, which you couldn’t do 10 years ago.

Naga, who admitted she hadn’t seen Ginny and Georgia, went on to quiz Gina about the attitudes of sexism between men and women and how we learn what is acceptable and not.

‘Isn’t the difference that time moves on and attitudes move on and we know what is acceptable and not acceptable?’ Naga asked.

‘I said sexist comments when I was a teenager, of course, I did, I was ignorant and I was learning.

‘But now I know there are things that I wouldn’t say and I certainly wouldn’t call out anyone on their love life.’

To which the campaigner replied: ‘See this is the same as me, but I think we have a problem, don’t we, in the public sphere with work created.

‘It’s not the same as individual choices, we develop as people, but then it takes a little while for our shows and our movies and our music and all that s**t.’

Realising the slip up, Gina quickly apologised as she added: ‘That stuff, sorry for swearing, all that stuff, to catch up.

Naga also stepped in to apologise to her listeners for Gina’s ‘inappropriate use of language’.

Naga Munchetty’s BBC Radio 5 Live show airs Monday to Wednesday from 10am.
