I’m A Celebrity: Ant and Dec’s most brutal swipes as they take aim at Boris Johnson over Downing Street Christmas party

I’m A Celebrity stars Ant and Dec have been applauded for their dig at Boris Johnson after the alleged Christmas Party at Downing Street last December – but it’s not the only swipe they’ve made in their time.

The Geordie duo, who are known for their ‘Evening, Prime Minister’ catchphrase and enjoy throwing a bit of shade the government’s way, gave us potentially one of their most iconic moments yet when they referred to the reports that a Christmas party was held in Downing Street when strict tier three Covid-19 restrictions were in place.

The reports have been denied, with a Downing Street spokesperson saying: ‘There was no Christmas party. Covid rules have been followed at all times.’

Even Labour leader Keir Starmer referenced the I’m A Celebrity moment, as he declared in Prime Minister’s Questions that ‘Ant and Dec are ahead of the Prime Minister on this’.

However, it’s not the first time the pair have got a little bit shady.

Almost every day since the start of this year’s I’m A Celebrity, Ant and Dec have taken aim at Mr Johnson, most notably when Dec referred to him as ‘Prime Minister…for now’ and gave us his rendition of his ‘forgive me’ speech.

Last year, the Prime Minister wasn’t safe either – when he was isolating during the Covid-19 pandemic, the pair suggested that he ‘must’ be watching, before launching into a less than complimentary bumbling impression of him.

Meanwhile, they whipped out their ‘Prime Minister…for now,’ joke back in 2019 when Mr Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn were battling it out in the general election.

Ant joked at the time: ‘Welcome to Australia and another TV show where two men like the sound of their own voices.’

‘Evening Prime Minister…for now,’ Dec laughed.

Tony Blair

The former Prime Minister can’t have been too impressed when the pair referenced him on I’m A Celebrity way back in 2008.

In a chat about whether they name their genitals, Dec sheepishly declared: ‘Yeah, I call it Tony Blair.’

‘Really?’ Ant asked. ‘Is that because it’s powerful and impressive?’

‘No, it’s because it used to be busy but nobody’s seen him for ages,’ Dec quipped.

David Cameron

If you can believe it, David Cameron got a slightly easier time of it, with the pair mostly referring to him when MP Nadine Dorries made an appearance on the show in 2013.

The duo often gave him a little shoutout to suggest he was watching to keep an eye on her.

‘You know what happens when the public votes for Nadine?’ Dec asked, with Ant joking: ‘Yep, she jumps on a plane and swans off to the other side of the world. Isn’t that right Prime Minister?!’

‘Harumph, harumph,’ Ant added for good measure, with Dec imitating the Speaker of the House of Commons and crying: ‘Order!’

Prince Andrew

Even royalty isn’t immune to Ant and Dec’s jibes.

In 2019, Prince Andrew undertook his ‘car crash’ interview following allegations about his links with Jeffrey Epstein (or the Pizza Express interview, as some might remember it).

He famously claimed he ‘doesn’t sweat’, with Ant and Dec jumping on that particularly bizarre remark.

In the very first episode, Ant said that this year’s contestants were ‘sweating’ with nerves, with Dec quipping: ‘Not everyone can sweat.’

Piers Morgan

Clearly not afraid to dish it out to their ITV colleagues, Ant and Dec have often poked fun at Piers, even before his Good Morning Britain debacle this year.

After welcoming Kate Garraway into the jungle in 2019, they insisted she had a ‘huge challenge’ to contend with, adding: ‘But before she goes back to work with Piers Morgan, she’s got three weeks in the jungle!’

They went on to brand Piers a ‘snowflake’ on Twitter.

David Walliams

Hilarious David. You should be on TV every night doing stuff like that….. oh hang on… 🤦🏻‍♂️ pic.twitter.com/5ZWVZOB6eN

While they haven’t given David Walliams too much of a hard time on I’m A Celebrity, Ant and Dec came for his career on Twitter – but to be fair, David did start it.

Sharing a old snap of the Geordie boys from the height of their PJ and Duncan days (when their outfits weren’t so…sophisticated, shall we say), David tweeted: ‘Style has always been very important to @antanddec.’

They weren’t having any of it though, quickly responding: ‘Hilarious David. You should be on TV every night doing stuff like that…oh hang on.’

David was in fact, on TV every night in his 2017 programme The Nightly Show – before it was cancelled by ITV after just one series.

Honourable mention for Dennis Wise (a very small man)

It wasn’t a real dig, but there’s no way we can’t include one of the best running jokes on I’m A Celebrity of all time.

On almost every single episode of I’m A Celebrity in 2017, Dec (who is the same height as Dennis) made a quip about him being a ‘very small man’ with, erm, increasing intensity.

It was a cultural moment and we defy anyone to think of Dennis Wise without declaring: ‘He’s a very small man!’

I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
