Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is stepping away from acting for a while to spend more time with his children.
The 45-year-old opened up about his decision to take a sabbatical when chatting to LinkedIn News, saying he doesn’t want to miss a single precious moment with James, six, Inez, five, and Betty, two.
He also says this is the ‘perfect time’ to focus his energy on other projects he is ‘extremely passionate’ about.
‘Well, I’ve done a lot of [acting],’ the Canadian began.
‘The biggest thing for me, and I know you have kids as well, is that I don’t want to miss this time with my kids.
‘When I’m shooting a film, I’m oftentimes in Europe, I’m away, there are incredibly long hours, it’s a ton of constant, kind of requirement to be there the whole time, not just because I’m performing but I’m also generally producing and writing on my movies as well,’ he said.

Ryan also mentioned his creative agency Maximum Effort, which he co-founded in 2018, and software platform MNTN, where he serves as the Chief Creative Officer. MNTN acquired Maximum Effort in June.
‘They tend to chew and blow bubbles with every aspect of my life when I’m shooting a film, so allowing myself to step away right away, it’s sort of the perfect time. Not just for my family but for MNTN and for Maximum Effort, to just kind of focus on those for a little while.’
The actor went on to say he wants to ‘live life like a normal human’ while his kids have ‘a pretty normal schedule.’
For many years, Ryan and wife Blake Lively would alternate between shooting movies and looking after their children, so they never worked at the same time.
However, he said the couple were ‘always away, so the kids were away too.’
This hectic lifestyle has become challenging as their children get older and now go to school, he explained, saying it’s ‘totally important for their development’ to have a ‘somewhat normal schedule.’

‘I really enjoy being a present dad. I love taking them to school in the morning, I love picking them up. I love that I have the hours in between to focus on the things that I’m really passionate about like MNTN and Maximum Effort,’ the Red Notice actor said, calling it ‘a juggling act.’
Elsewhere in the chat, the Golden Globe nominee spoke about homeschooling his children through the pandemic, saying he ‘certainly doesn’t miss Zoom school’ but it was ‘really lovely’ to ‘have that insight’ into what his kids get up to on a daily basis.
Reynolds first announced that he was taking a break from making movies in October, after wrapping up the film Spirited.
He took to Instagram to reveal the film was ‘challenging’ due to all the singing and dancing involved, but thanked Will Ferrell for ‘making dreams come true.’

Announcing his break from movie making, he said he will ‘miss every second’ of working with an ‘obscenely gifted group of creators and artists.’
His latest release, Red Notice, is now streaming on Netflix and had the biggest opening day ever on November 12.
