Billionaire Warren Buffet on LeBron James: “In Addition to a Lot of Other Talents, He Has a Money Mind. And He Gets Stuff.”

LeBron James is well known as one of the greatest basketball players in NBA history. But he’s also known for his outstanding business acumen. Moreover, LeBron is the first billionaire that the NBA has as he has proven to be one of the best athletes, investors, and philanthropists. In an interview, Warren Buffett referred to James saying he has a “money-mind”.

According to USA Today’s Josh Peter, after James joined the NBA in 2003, he and Buffett, the Berkshire Hathaway CEO who became a billionaire in 1990, have stayed in touch over the years. 

“He can separate out the cream from the crap, and you get more of the latter proposed to you than you do of the former, “You really have to be able to suss it out,” says Buffett.

Is LeBron James money-minded?

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett spoke about James’ accomplishments in a phone interview with USA Today.

“People really do have minds that function better than other people’s in certain areas that you can’t give a test for… And LeBron, in addition to a lot of other talents, has a money mind. And he gets stuff.“

LeBron is the top-paid athlete, and besides his business deals and endorsements, has estimated earnings of $85.5 million. As James stated in the Wall Street Journal, basketball has never been a job for him. He sees it as a business opportunity. “The first time I stepped onto an NBA court I became a businessman.”

Basketball brought him money that he invested in businesses and philanthropic endeavors. The reports reveal that he has earned more than $330 million as a professional athlete since 2003, while his endorsements with brands like AT&T, Beats, Blaze Pizza, GMC, PepsiCo, Rimowa, and Walmart generate over $100 million annually. In addition to that, he signed a lifetime deal with Nike back in 2016 through which he gets $30 million a year.
