WATCH: Orlando Salido Blasts Vasyl Lomachenko With 67 Low Blows and Hands the Ukranian His First Defeat

After securing 94 wins and suffering a single loss in his nine-year-long amateur career, Vasyl Lomachenko kicked off his professional career in 2013. With one of the most impressive amateur records in the game, Loma never expected to break his winning streak against Orlando Salido.

As he had competed against some of the top names as an amateur, fighting a featherweight with 41 wins and 12 losses did not seem like a huge deal to Lomachenko initially. This was only his second professional fight, and he had ended his debut against Jose Luis Ramirez with a sharp knockout. In his second pro-fight, he ended up going the distance with Orlando Salido.

Today, Vasyl Lomachenko is easily one of the best in the sport, has 15 wins and 2 losses on his record. While one came recently against Teofimo Lopez, he suffered his first loss against Orlando Salido in October 2013.

However, this was a very controversial fight; Salido secured a split decision win over Loma. Upon reviewing the eight-year-old 12-rounder, it is clear that Salido did not play clean that night. Not only was the outcome of this clash controversial, but it is also now clear from fight highlights that the Mexican landed 67 low-blows and committed a total of 28 fouls.

Who is Vasyl Lomachenko fighting next?

After defeating Jorge Linares, Vasyl Lomachenko bagged the WBA Super World Lightweight title in May 2018. In the next seven months, he secured the WBO strap as well with a win over Jose Pedraza. He would then defend his belts against Anthony Crolla in 2019 and ending it with a knockout, Loma made the ultimate leap by challenging Luke Campbell for the WBC title.

With a unanimous decision win over Campbell in 2019, Vasyl Lomachenko secured his spot as the top-dog at 135 pounds. However, his reign as a champion ended nearly 13 months after his unification clash as Teofimo Lopez stepped up to the challenge and proved the world wrong.

But, 33-year-old Lomachenko is not one to back down. After losing his throne, the Ukrainian re-entered the win column with a stunning TKO win over Masayoshi Nakatani. Right away, that kicked off talks of an instant rematch with Teofimo Lopez; however, months after declining a rematch, Lopez himself lost his throne to Australian challenger, George Kambosos Jr.

Now that Lopez is out of the way, Vasyl Lomachenko wants another shot at the titles. However, Richard Commey, ranked seventh by BoxRec, is currently standing in his way. The former IBF titlist from Ghana is all set to face the former champion at Madison Square Garden in New York.
