“Revolutionized Tennis Differently”: Stefanos Tsitsipas Reveals Admiration for Andre Agassi After Reading His Book
World No. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas began the year on a positive note, after reaching the semifinal of the Australian Open 2021. In doing so, he matched his previous best record of making it to the penultimate stage of the tournament. In the quarterfinal this year, he beat Spain’s Rafael Nadal, which was one of the best matches of the tournament.
Recently, the Greek sensation revealed his admiration for the eight-time Grand Slam winner, Andre Agassi. He pays special emphasis on the legends autobiography, ‘Open’. After reading his book, Stefanos was in awe of the 50-year-old, after learning the hardships Andre faced during his early days.
Stefanos Tsitsipas: “I was stunned by the things he went through”
While speaking to Essentially Sports, Tsitsipas revealed, “I’ve met Andre a few years ago when he was working with Djokovic. I’ve read his book. I was stunned by things I went through the things that he had to go through in his life. And what a journey he had to get to where he was. It was honestly unbelievable. And I have huge respect for him for all the struggles and all the accomplishments that he had to undergo as a person.”
The 2021 Australian Open semifinalist further states the manner in which the American refashioned the game along with his fierce rival and compatriot Pete Sampras. The Greek player adds that Andre’s a great coach and has met him during his spell with Djokovic.
The 22-year-old player added, “He was one of the greatest tennis players of the modern era. Together with Sampras, they change then revolutionized tennis to a completely different degree. And they brought a lot of fans to tennis. He has helped a lot Djokovic I don’t, I’ve never asked but I feel like he has done a great job with him. And he’s also a great coach.”
At the moment, Stefanos is competing in the Rotterdam Cup 2021 after an optimistic start to the season. After the Rotterdam Cup, he will be seen at the Miami Open.
