WWE star Charlotte Flair hates ‘silly’ idea of Queen versus Queen match with Zelina Vega

WWE superstar Charlotte Flair has rubbished the idea of clashing with Zelina Vega over the right to the Queen moniker.

The SmackDown Women’s Champion has used the nickname for years now, but Vega has taken it on and made it a major part of her character after winning the inaugural Queen’s Crown tournament in Saudi Arabia two months ago.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Charlotte dismissed the notion of a storyline between the pair focused on the crown as she argued: ‘I don’t think I need to fight over a crown, sorry.

‘I don’t think I need a crown to be called the Queen. I am the Queen. It’s silly to me. [laughs] No offense!’

She admitted the idea of getting into the ring with Zelina appeals, but she hasn’t given much thought to anything beyond that.

‘I mean, maybe facing Zelina, but to have a match focused around Queen versus Queen? Like, I’m the Queen of them all – without a throne,’ she insisted. ‘I don’t see that as – she has a long way to go before that becomes her… I don’t know how you say it? I always wear my invisible crown.’

Despite that, Charlotte – who has become embroiled in a feud with Toni Storm since we spoke – had high praise for plenty of rising stars, while singling out some wrestlers as dream opponents.

‘I just had a match with Shotzi – it was awesome. Actually, the fan reaction was what made me so excited for it. They’re so hungry to see new talent,’ she smiled, clearly agreeing with the sentiment.

‘I had an opportunity to face Doudrop, that was awesome. I know Zelina and I will face each other down the road. Liv Morgan.’

She also pointed to NXT and the need to develop future stars there, with the likes of Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair both working their way up to the main roster via what was the black and gold brand.

‘It’s just a matter of bringing new people up from NXT and having the audience get to know them. It just takes time. And it takes going back on tour, and live events, to do that,’ she explained.

‘I’m so proud of Rhea Ripey and Bianca Belair. They have come so far, and they’re only gonna go further. I truly believe Rhea is the future face of the women’s division.’

*WWE Raw (Mondays) and SmackDown (Fridays) air at 1am on BT Sport 1. WrestleMania 38 takes place Saturday April 2 and Sunday April 3 at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Travel packages are now on sale.
