“I Undoubtedly Accept the Rematch”- Amanda Nunes Agree to Fight Julianna Pena in an Immediate Rematch
The co-main event and the main event at UFC 269 featured two title fights. American Top Team fighters Dustin Poirier and Amanda Nunes fought for UFC gold, albeit in extremely different situations. While Nunes was defending her bantamweight belt, Poirier was fighting for the undisputed lightweight title for the second time in his career.
Going into the fight, both Nunes and Poirier were heavy favorites. In fact, Pena was the biggest underdog on the card, according to the oddsmakers in Las Vegas. However, as it has happened multiple times in the sport, fans in the arena and around the world witnessed two huge upsets as Julianna Pena and Charles Oliveira stopped Nunes and Poirier, respectively.
Following the loss, ‘The Lioness’ put out a statement on her Instagram page saying, “You guys think I’m going to go out unbalanced. I undoubtedly accept the rematch. Give me a little time to get my shit together and I will be back better than ever. @danawhite.”

A rematch between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena is the fight to make
Amanda Nunes is one of only four people in the UFC to hold belts in two divisions simultaneously. Furthermore, she is also the only champion to defend belts in two divisions actively. The fight against Pena was Nunes’ first title defense of her bantamweight title since December 2019.
Almost everyone that she has faced in the UFC prior to Pena has been wobbled with the very first punch she has thrown. However, Pena not only absorbed the ‘The Lioness’ threw, but she walked her down all while throwing shots of her own. Nunes completely emptied her gas tank in the first round as every shot she threw was loaded up on. Once the champion started to fatigue, Pena was able to take her down, secure the back and sink in a rear-naked choke.
Nunes has received a lot of criticism from fans as well as pundits for ‘quitting’ as soon as the going got tough. Now that the champion wants a rematch, it is only fair to book it immediately given what she has accomplished in the sport.
