Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis’ step-grandson killed in car collision

Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis’ step-grandson has been involved in a fatal car accident.

Harry Brooksbank, of Shepton Mallet, died after a collision in his Ford Fiesta with a utility pole on the A361 at Pilton, Somerset just before 2am on Friday December 10.

The 27-year-old was declared dead at the scene, with no else injured.

Father-of-five Eavis, who has 19 grandchildren, is step-grandand to Brooksbank from his second marriage to Jean Hayball, who died from cancer in 1999.

His family have issued a statement, which read: ‘We are all heartbroken by the tragic loss of Harry, a wonderful warm, fun loving son and brother.

‘We will miss him dreadfully. We would like to thank everyone for their love and support.’

The Riflemans Arms pub in Glastonbury also paid tribute to Brooksbank in a post on Facebook, sending ‘deepest condolences’ to his friends and family and describing the young man as ‘the most genuine, nicest guy we’ve had the pleasure of knowing, always smiling and charming’.

It continued: ‘We are truly devastated.

‘No one will ever rock a tash as you did. Sending love to all that are hurting right now.’

Eavis founded the vastly popular Glastonbury Festival in 1970 after inheriting the 150-acre Worthy Farm from his father in 1954.

It is now run by his youngest child Emily, 42, daughter to Jean, who oversees the music event’s starry line-up.
