Viewers heard last that David and girlfriend Victoria Sugden had gone on a last minute break to see Diane Sugden in Portugal – just days after Diane left herself.

But since then there has been no word – until tonight.

In a blink and you’ll miss it scene, Dawn Taylor asked if Jacob had any more wine on offer in store.

He told her: “Call back tomorrow, dad will have called in with another offer by then.”

She then asked: “How are you coping?”

“I need to get someone else in,” he told her, hinting that David won’t be back for a while yet.

Off screen actors Matthew and Isobel Hodgins have been away from filming since a row with another cast member.

Meanwhile the soap also confirmed that Debbie Dingle would not be returning to the village for Christmas.

The mechanic – who is played by Matthew’s wife Charley Webb in the ITV soap – hasn’t been seen since last February.

At the time she went away to look for a new manager for her garage in Scotland, promising to return soon.

However she hasn’t and tonight Chas Dingle revealed she wouldn’t be back for Christmas either.
