David Benavidez Signs the Contract for His Spring 2022 Return, Opponent Revealed
David Benavidez is eagerly tracing his path towards the super-middleweight gold and is keeping a super active boxing stint. The knockout star outclassed two opponents in 2021, and now, he has signed the contract to return to the ring in spring 2022. But, the big question is, who is Benavidez facing next? Will he fight Canelo Alvarez?
The undefeated fighter will square off with seasoned veteran, David Lemieux, in his next outing.
Mike Coppinger reported the same on his Twitter and wrote, “Source: David Benavidez and David Lemieux have signed contracts for a 168-pound that will headline a PBC on Showtime card in the spring, likely in Phoenix.”

Benavidez last faced Kyrone Davis on November 13 and claimed a T/KO in round 7. With that win, it finally seemed as if the Arizona native would get his hands on the undisputed super-middleweight champ, Canelo Alvarez.

However, the p4p king announced his move up to the cruiserweight and vacated none of his belts at the 168-pound frame. Citing that, until and unless he finishes up his business at the cruiserweight roster, it seems unlikely that Canelo Alvarez will face anyone in the super-middleweight division.
Hence, ‘El Bandera Roja’ will have to prove his mettle once again to take himself one more step closer to battle Canelo. In David Lemieux, he has received a perfect opponent at this stage of his career.
Is David Lemieux the toughest opponent for David Benavidez?
David Lemieux, who began his boxing career, holds a staggering 43-4 record. The 32-year-old Canadian has claimed 36 of those wins via stoppages.

Records speak for themselves, and without a doubt, Lemieux is the toughest opponent for Benavidez. Also, this contest will be fire vs fire, as both of them are super aggressive pugilists.
Hence, this will be an intriguing test for the young gun. Should he claim a win here, Benavidez will have proved his mettle to one and all yet again.
