Ecclestone ‘Realized’ Lewis Hamilton is Retiring from F1 Amid Talks With His Father Anthony
Recently, Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff suggested that a ‘disillusioned’ Lewis Hamilton may not continue in Formula 1, that he might retire. And now Bernie Ecclestone has made a huge claim about Hamilton’s future.
In a recent interview, Ecclestone claimed that he had spoken with Anthony Hamilton and “realized immediately that he did not want to talk about his son’s future.”
“I think he is retiring, that he will not race next year. His disappointment in Abu Dhabi was too great, and I understand him,” Ecclestone claimed.
But the former executive of F1 then went to suggest that now that the Briton is tied with Michael Schumacher with seven titles, it’s the perfect moment for him to fulfill his dream.
And that dream of Hamilton’s in Ecclestone’s eyes is of being a fashion entrepreneur.

Bernie Ecclestone’s comments are sure to add more wind to the already raging fire surrounding Hamilton’s Formula 1 future. But the bit about his ‘other dreams’ can be interpreted as a dig at Hamilton’s personal style and off-track life.
And this isn’t the first time Ecclestone has commented on Hamilton’s off-track achievements.
Ecclestone claims Lewis Hamilton didn’t deserve the knighthood
After the disappointing and crushing result of Abu Dhabi, Lewis Hamilton was knighted by the Queen. The 37-year-old became one of the handful of names from F1 who have been bestowed upon with this incredible honor for his incredible achievements and contributions to both in and out of the sport.
But Bernie Ecclestone thought otherwise.
He said, “Only people who have really done something for the country should be knighted.”
“I don’t think many people who are knighted now really deserve it. They all make a lot of money and donate some to charity, but they haven’t done anything specific for the country.”
The air surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s F1 career is growing hotter and hotter every passing day. While the 37-year-old is indeed edging towards the end of his career, if it came to an end now, it would lead to a sour taste in everyone’s mouth.
Simply because of all the ways to go, this will be the saddest and most unfair.
