Death In Paradise returns to screens on Boxing Day with its Christmas special – ahead of the start of its 11th series in the New Year.
The show offers viewers the chance to escape the cold dark nights for an hour each week, and instead feast their eyes on its sun-soaked locations – but just where is the fictional island of Saint-Marie?
As the show title states, it’s pure paradise (just ignore all of the grisly murders, yeah?) – but is it a real island, and can you visit?

Where is Death in Paradise filmed?
If you want to visit the set, you’ll have to pack your bags and head to the airport, as its filmed in Guadeloupe in the Caribbean.
While it might look like paradise, filming hasn’t been without its challenges in recent times – as well as having to film the tenth series in the middle of the pandemic, the murder-mystery was called to a halt mid-way through series seven when there was a red alert before Hurricane Irma crossed the island.

The French local authorities on Guadeloupe warned people at the time to ‘stay confined. Don’t go out under any circumstances’ after they posted a video showing winds of over 209 km/h battering the island paradise.
Death In Paradise recommenced filming once it was deemed safe to do so, after Guadeloupe avoided Hurricane Irma’s path.
Ardal O’Hanlon spoke to Radio Times about the inclement weather, saying ‘We were lucky that the worst of the storms missed us.
‘We had Irma, a nasty one called Jose and then Maria, which was the real monster. It wiped out nearby Dominica, which was really sad. But the team is prepared for it: there are people tracking the hurricanes very closely.’

When does Death In Paradise season 11 begin?
Season 11 of Death In Paradise is set to begin on Friday January 7 on BBC One at 9pm.
As well as introducing us to new cast members including Shantol Jackson as ambitious young Sergeant Naomi Thomas, Season 11 will see the return of Ralf Little as DI Neville Parker.
The character left viewers on a cliffhanger at the end of the last series when he confessed his feelings for DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert).
Executive producer Tim Key gave some hints of what viewers can expect back in February 2021 after season 10 ended.

‘All I can tell you is when the show comes back viewers will absolutely find out what happens next, when it’s back we will let everybody know,’ he explained to metro.co.uk.
‘With situations like Neville and Florence’s it’s very hard, if you get people together it can be the end of a partnership in dramatic terms, but at the same time you can’t stretch things out for too long because the audience get frustrated. We’ve got a really cool plan, we know where it’s going and the audience will be very satisfied with it, there’s a story to tell and I think we needed the time to tell it.’
Actor Little joined midway through season nine after the departure of DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon).
Death In Paradise’s Christmas special airs on BBC One at 7.30pm on Boxing Day.
