Warning: Spoilers ahead for Insecure season 5!

It’s a bittersweet moment for devoted Insecure fans right now, as the final ever episode made its debut on Sunday.

The comedy drama’s fifth season was confirmed as the last one by creator and actress Issa Rae, and although the leading lady had doubts over how fans might respond to the final episode, it’s safe to say we couldn’t have imagined it ending any other way.

Issa Dee (Rae) and Molly Carter’s (Yvonne Orji) friendship has always been the focal point throughout the course of the show.

The pair were on the rocks in series four and the chapter was filled with shady remarks between the pair after they decided the part ways.

But, producers would have had an angry mob on their hands if they didn’t allow the BBF’s to find their way back to each other, and of course, the final episode titled Everything Gonna Be, Okay?! emphasised the true meaning of sisterhood in a way we didn’t expect.

The closing five minutes show Issa and the gang laughing and dancing at Molly and Taurean’s wedding, but the full-circle moment comes after the party’s over, when Issa’s helping Molly out of her wedding dress in the bathroom.

In their most intimate conversation, Molly thanks Issa ‘for loving’ her, which results in both parties crying.

At this point, the relationship we should be looking to for hope and guidance is Molly and Issa’s. THAT’S the true definition of my person and unconditional love. #InsecureHBO

No one is perfect so there’s no such thing as a perfect ending. The fact that Issa and Molly ending up with what they deemed as happiness was good for me #InsecureHBO

I know we focused on the romance a lot in this show but the definition of growth is found within Molly and Issa’s friendship. Friendships are hard. And this show was a true showcasing of what it means to love through relationships as people still figuring it out. #InsecureHBO

The real love story of this season was definately the repair of Molly and Issa’s friendship.

Genuine friendships are so important. #InsecureHBO

Although the series has had viewers hooked on the love triangles and the steamy romances, fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts over the endearing ending.

One fan wrote: ‘At this point, the relationship we should be looking to for hope and guidance is Molly and Issa’s. THAT’S the true definition of my person and unconditional love.’

While another added: ‘I know we focused on the romance a lot in this show but the definition of growth is found within Molly and Issa’s friendship. Friendships are hard. And this show was a true showcasing of what it means to love through relationships as people still figuring it out.’

Although fans were not ready to say goodbye, Rae said it was time for the show to end, and she always had it in mind to conclude Issa Dee’s story in the fifth season.

Speaking to Deadline, Issa said: ‘We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience.’
