Report: Mercedes F1 Set to Revert to Classic Silver Livery for Hamilton & Russell From 2022

For the first in 11 years, Mercedes AMG switched their livery from Silver to a contrasting Black ahead of the 2020 F1 season.

Yes, the Brackley outfit initially did bring out another silver livery during the 2020 launch, but, heading into the actual season, the massive support towards what was one of the biggest social movements in the history of mankind led Mercedes to make this decision.

Eventually, the entire community of F1 joined forces to support this movement. The buzz eventually settled as the 2020 season progressed, and it almost looked like Mercedes could revert to their classic silver livery by 2021. But, to everyone’s shock, that wasn’t the case.

It was yet again a flashy black livery, albeit with a tinge of red paint (INEOS) on the top of the engine cover. And, now, another season has come to a closure, but there is hardly any sign of Mercedes paying dividends to their famous label, Silver Arrows.

Are Mercedes set to end their Black livery run?

To the fans desperately awaiting the return of silver livery on Mercedes, here’s some good news! According to BILD, The German racing outfit will be ending their black livery run with the 2021 F1 season. Hence, from the 2022 car launch, the fans will finally get to witness a silver Mercedes W13.

The Silver Arrows feel that they’ve done enough over the past couple of years supporting the movement and it is time that they move on. Of course, Lewis Hamilton is still going strong with his constant voicing out to social matters, and one might feel this Mercedes decision might irk him.

But, the 7-time world champion seems to be in full support of his team. So, with no opposing within, the comeback of silver livery is pretty much imminent for the defending champions. Of course, it is unlikely to witness a full silver-painted Mercedes, considering the changes in the past couple of years in terms of the partnership.

With INEOS claiming part-ownership, their red-colored branding is likely to dominate the livery along with the silver-blue of Petronas. Overall, a striking new livery is in the making for the hybrid-era giants!
