Urgent Amazon warning for millions of customers as Visa cards will stop working in days

MILLIONS of Amazon customers were left scrambling after learning that their Visa cards will stop working in just a few days.

Amazon sent a warning, telling customers to head to their account settings to move their Visa credit cards before it’s too late.

It was announced in November that Amazon UK would stop accepting Visa as a valid payment method from January 19, 2022.

Emails have been sent to customers, warning them that they could lose access to unlimited next-day delivery if a Visa credit card is linked to their monthly Amazon Prime membership feels.

Prime Video, Prime Music, unlimited photo back-up and other features could be lost as well. New orders placed with a Visa card will also be rejected.

“Our records indicate that you currently use a Visa credit card to pay for your Prime Membership,” read an email sent from Amazon to customers.

“To ensure you continue to have access to unlimited fast delivery, endless streaming with Prime Video, millions of songs and podcasts with Amazon Music Prime and the many other Prime benefits you enjoy, you’ll need to update your payment card.”

All other debit cards, including Visa debit cards, as well as non-Visa credit cards such as MasterCard, American Express and EuroCard will be accepted by the retailer.

Amazon announced that the decision to stop accepting Visa credit cards was due to the high transaction fees associated with Visa credit cards.

“The cost of accepting card payments continues to be an obstacle for businesses striving to provide the best prices for customers,” said Amazon at the time.

In a statement, Visa said the decision would limit consumer choice. “We are very disappointed that Amazon is threatening to restrict consumer choice in the future,”

“When consume choice is limited, nobody wins. We have a long-standing relationship with Amazon, and we continue to work toward a resolution, so our customers can use their preferred Visa credit cards at Amazon UK without Amazon-imposed restrictions come January 2022.

Amazon has offered Prime customers that have a Visa credit card as their default payment method £20 off their next purchase for choosing another card.

Non-Prime members will receive £10 off instead.
