Daisy May Cooper dedicates book to ‘c***’ producer who told her she couldn’t play Kerry in This Country
Daisy May Cooper has dedicated her book to a producer who told her she couldn’t play Kerry Mucklowe in This Country.
The 34-year-old is the star, co-creator and writer of This Country, the award-winning BBC Three mockumentary sitcom about life in rural England.
Across three series, penned with her brother Charlie Cooper (who plays Kurtan), the country won three Royal Television Awards and four Baftas, including one for best female comedy performance for Daisy’s performance as Kerry.
However, it turns out one producer advised Daisy not to star in her own show – and aren’t we all grateful she didn’t listen?
Promoting her upcoming memoir Don’t Laugh, It Will Only Encourage Her, the 34-year-old said on Instagram: ‘It’s about me being a f*** up, basically. I’ve made more mistakes than all the f***ing Chuckle Brothers episodes put together, and I still haven’t f***ing learned from them. I’ve got a f***ing stripper story in there… I’ve got the time I got absolutely f***ed on my own and tried to gatecrash a 16-year-old’s disco, got chucked out by security, loads of stuff like that.
‘It also talks about how I was really poor, and me and Charlie were trying to write This Country, and we had bailiffs on the door the whole time, and I used to have to recycle old tobacco, which was really disgusting.’
Daisy then turned to her nemeses that inspired the book, saying: ‘And it’s also about a producer, right, that turned around to me and told me that I couldn’t play Kerry in This Country. So, it’s a big f*** off to you as well, you c***, because I’ve got four Baftas now, and I’ve got my own book coming out, which is no holds barred.
‘So all you b*****ds who’ve f***ed me off in the past, you better be f***ing worried.’
Daisy’s book was the source of a gripping saga this week, as she clashed with her publishers in a row over a bent knob.
Literature is wilder than we thought.
The Taskmaster star shared a clip to Instagram, having stealthily recorded a phone call with her publishers after they disagreed with the inclusion of a story about an ex-boyfriend with a wonky penis in her book.
On the call, Daisy said the story about an ex ‘who had a knob that bent massively to the left’ was a ‘dealbreaker’, but the team weren’t impressed, as a man on the phone said that they were a ‘serious group of people’.
Daisy then disappeared from Instagram – but that was actually her doing, rather than any shadowy organisation attempting to silence her.
The actress said: ‘I threw a tantrum this morning and disabled my account on Instagram in protest. Penguin have offered to let me dedicate the book to my ex-boyfriend’s wonky knob. I have accepted and we have made up.
‘I also ended up having a heart-to-heart with the publisher (the man in the video) who confessed he was in a really bad mood yesterday. Mainly because his 5 year old son keeps hitting him with a stick and there is a cat on his street that keeps using his own cat’s cat flap and is intimidating him in his own house. So I figure now he isn’t that bad and once lockdown is over we are going for a pint.
‘Annoyingly Instagram won’t let me activate my account for 24 hours so I more p***ed off with Instagram than I am with him. And that’s all I wish to say to the press right now.’
Thankfully, Daisy has now returned to Instagram, so all is well.
Don’t Laugh, It Will Only Encourage Her is scheduled for release October 28.
