Klay Thompson Confirms Overdue Warriors Return With a Michael Jordan’s Space Jam Reference
It has been two years since Klay Thompson last played an NBA game. And to the DubNation, those two years felt like two decades. It was almost like when Michael Jordan announced his first retirement from basketball. And Klay Thompson was well aware of that. Therefore, he chose the perfect reference to announce his much-awaited return to the starting lineup.
Klay Thompson took to Instagram to announce that he’s returning to the starting lineup tomorrow. He used a clip from Michael Jordan’s Space Jam in the post. The caption of the post read, “How I’m pulling up to Chase tomorrow, Bill Murray is my spirit animal. I’M SO EXCITED TO SEE Y’ALL DUB NATION. LET’S GET IT.”
The last time Klay Thompson played NBA Basketball
Considering it has been two years since he last played, a lot was different around the league the last time he played an NBA game. The sensation around the NBA is like when Michael Jordan returned from his retirement to revive the hopes of all fans. Similarly now, Basketball feels beautiful again, and the NBA is excited to have him back. And a fan even observed that in a way, he used yet another Jordan reference to announce his return on Twitter.

Since it was the 2019 NBA Finals against Toronto Raptors where he injured himself, it is only befitting that the first observation is that Kawhi Leonard was still a Raptor when Klay last played. Moreover, James Harden was still in the Rockets. Kevin Durant was still in the Warriors. Anthony Davis hadn’t left the Pelicans to join LeBron James at the Lakers. Kyrie Irving was still in the Celtics. And Russell Westbrook was still in Oklahoma City Thunder.
So much has changed since 2019. Even the officiating change related to “Non Basketball Moves” had not been implemented back then. A lot has changed but the one thing that remains constant if not higher since is the excitement to watch Klay play.
What does this mean for the Golden State Warriors?
Do you think Klay Thompson will hit the ground running from where he left off? Or will he be rusty and will need time to adjust? Well, the only thing for certain is that when the Warriors play the Cavaliers tomorrow, the entire Chase Center and DubNation will be on the edge of their seats.
