Ex On The Beach star Ashley Cain opens up on ‘mental trauma’ as daughter Azaylia’s leukaemia returns
Ashley Cain has opened up about the ‘mental trauma’ he has suffered in the midst of his daughter’s leukaemia battle.
The Ex On The Beach star and his girlfriend Safiyya Vorajee’s five-month-old daughter Azaylia was diagnosed with a ‘rare and aggressive’ form of cancer known as AML (acute myeloid leukaemia).
In February, Ashley made the heartbreaking announcement that the cancer had returned.
Now revealing how he’s been coping throughout the devastating ordeal, Ashley told his Instagram followers in a video: ‘A lot of people have said that I’m motivational but the truth is, I haven’t been motivational or inspirational for myself recently.
‘I think coming home put me in a comfort zone in some kind of way and it took me out of my routine at the hospital.’
The 30-year-old added: ‘Also with the added trauma on my mind of my daughter’s leukemia coming back, it’s been difficult. The last couple of weeks have been very mentally challenging and I’ve done what I never do, I let myself slip.
‘It’s all because I haven’t kept my standards, I haven’t been tenacious with the way I go through life. I’ve sat back and I’ve allowed myself to get in my comfort zone and that is the worst thing you can do. Nothing was ever achieved in a comfort zone.
‘My daughter needs me at 150%. That means, I need to do whatever I can do in my power to make myself that level so that I can transfer that energy onto her. If I eat right, if I sleep right, if I train right, and if I keep pushing towards my goals in life, that makes me the top of my game.’
Over the weekend, Ashley spent quality time with Azaylia and filmed her standing up in her walker. In other sweet clips, Ashley is seen cradling the tot in his arms and rocking her gently while listening to Bob Marley’s No Woman, No Cry and Three Little Birds (Don’t Worry About A Thing).
It comes two weeks weeks after Ashley and Safiyya learned Azaylia’s leukaemia had returned just as she was due to become an outpatient.
‘Today was supposed to be a day of unquestionable happiness. However, it turned out like most days on this journey; A miracle blindsided by heartbreak!’ he told his concerned followers.
‘We got told a few days ago that Azaylia would be ringing the bell today and coming home with us, as a family to resume treatment 2 days per week as an outpatient.
‘However, 10 minutes before the moment we have been praying for over the last 5 months… We got urgently informed that Azaylia’s leukaemia had returned.
‘We crumbled and cancelled the celebration as we felt broken and numb to the core before seeing her beautiful face telling us, the show must go on and us then realising how far our little girl has come and how much she deserves this moment.’
He added: ‘She has battled against the odds, she has overcome every obstacle in her path and she has done it all with remarkable spirit and the biggest smile on her face!’
