AEW star Jon Moxley confirms in-ring return 2 months after entering rehab over addiction issues

AEW star Jon Moxley is set for an in-ring return weeks after entering an inpatient alcohol treatment program.

The former world champion – who appeared in WWE as Dean Ambrose before leaving and joining rival promotion All Elite Wrestling in 2019 – stepped away from the public eye at the beginning of November to deal with his personal issues.

Moxley also works outside AEW for a number of independent companies and has remained the GCW World Champion during his time away from the ring.

Now, Game Changer Wrestling has confirmed he will make his return on January 23 at their huge Hammerstein Ballroom event as he defends the gold against Homicide.

Fans were delighted by the huge announcement, with GCW’s announcement flooded with messages of support for the star.

One excited fan summed it up perfectly as they wrote: ‘JON F***IN MOXLEY IS BACK’.

‘WELCOME BACK MOX,’ added another, while a different fan tweeted: ‘We’ve missed you Mox. Welcome back.’

There’s currently no word on when Moxley will make his AEW comeback, while boss Tony Khan had insisted he wanted to give the star the time he needed to get healthy.

In a statement on Twitter announcing the news in November, Khan wrote: ‘Jon Moxley has allowed me to share with you that he is entering an inpatient alcohol treatment program.

‘Jon is a beloved member of the AEW family. We all stand with him and Renee, and all of his family and friends, as he shifts his focus to recovery. Jon is making a very brave choice to get help, and we’re embracing his choice and supporting him however we can.

‘I’m proud to call Jon a friend, and like many of you, I’m also a fan of Mox and look forward to a time in the future when he is eventually ready to return to the ring.

‘Until then, thank you for supporting Jon and respecting his privacy at this time.’

Moxley had been scheduled to face Orange Cassidy in the semi-finals of the AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament, but was replaced by Miro who went on to lose to Bryan Danielson in the final.
