The Time Machine actress Yvette Mimieux dies aged 80

Actress Yvette Mimieux has died at the age of 80.
The star, who was known for her roles in films including The Time Machine in 1960 and The Black Hole in 1979, died of natural causes and peacefully in her sleep, a family representative confirmed to People.
Mimieux, who was born in Los Angeles, started her career in 1958 before earning a Golden Globe nomination for most promising female newcomer in 1960’s Platinum High School.
The same year, she starred alongside Rod Taylor in the adaptation of HG Wells’ The Time Machine.
Mimieux was also accomplished on the small screen, landing another Golden Globe nod for her appearance in the TV series Dr Kildare in 1964, while her third nomination came for her role in series The Most Deadly Game.
She was also a writer, penning the TV movies Hit Lady and Obsessive Love, which she starred in.

In her personal life, Mimieux married Evan Harland Engber in 1959, although the pair later divorced. She went on to wed director Stanley Donen in 1972, with the couple divorcing in 1985.
In 1986, she married Howard Ruby. She’s survived by Edouard Mimieux and Gloria Montemayor as well as stepchildren Steven Ruby, Michael Ruby, Donna Hill, Josh Donen and Mark Donen.
Tributes have poured in for the late star, with one fan writing: ‘RIP Yvette Mimieux. Light in the Piazza is a film I revisit often. Her and Olivia de Havilland are one of the sweetest mother and daughter pairs on film. She was also memorable in Where the Boys Are, The Time Machine and Toys in the Attic. A special star to me.’

One more said: ‘Oh gosh. This one really hurts. I adore Yvette Mimieux and am so sad to hear she has died. I feel she brought a sensitivity and a depth to her roles, and she didn’t get the recognition she deserved.’
