Ashleigh Barty Creates History at Australian Open 2022 After 42-Year Long Wait
It was semifinal day in the women’s singles and we had Ashleigh Barty take on American player Madison Keys. As things have gone through the past couple of weeks for the World No. 1 player, it was another clinical performance again today.
After winning today’s match, Ashleigh Barty became the 1st Australian woman to advance to the Australian Open final since Wendy Turnbull in 1980. So far, Ash has not lost a set and has been broken only once so far.
As the match began, Barty got off to a brilliant start. She wasted no time in breaking her opponent in the very first game. In the fifth game, Keys was broken again only for the Australian player to race to a 4-1 lead.

The dominance displayed by Ashleigh was of sheer class. Eventually, after 28 minutes, Madison was broken for the third time and ended up losing the set to Barty 1-6.
During the set, Barty was serving not as well as her opponent but yet managed to win more of her service points. The unforced errors by Keys were way higher than that of the World No. 1 player.

In the following set, Ashleigh began proceedings and held her opening service game. Both players were playing consistently until the sixth game of the set. Ashleigh sensed an opportunity and struck first in the second set.
Eventually, the one break was enough for World No. 1 player to serve it out eventually for the match. After 36 minutes, it was Barty who continued showing sensational tennis and won the set 6-3.

She has now booked a spot in the final. She awaits the winner of the other semifinal which will take place between Danielle Collins and Iga Swiatek. It has all the makings of being a spectacular match.
The women’s final will take place on Saturday. We wish all players the best of luck for the remaining few days left in the first Grand Slam event of the season.
