The tower of Tandil last played on tour during the 2019 Cinch Championships (Queen’s Club Championships) in London. Since the tournament, injuries have marred del Potro’s career and it took him more than two years to properly recover and play in-front of his home crowd.

Coming to the Rio Open, the organizers of the event also confirmed the Argentinian‘s participation via social media.

@delpotrojuan is coming to the Rio Open 2022, six years after winning an Olympic silver medal in the city. He joins Berrettini, Ruud, Thiem and Alcaraz in a stellar line-up on February 12-20!”

The Buenos Aires Open will start from the 7th of February whereas the Rio Open begins on the 13th. If everything goes well, fans get to see del Potro play in consecutive events.

Del Potro had his fourth right knee surgery last March. It was not an easy couple of years for the Argentinian and his fans. But, del Potro wanted to keep the dream alive and continue to play the sport he loves.

The Argentinian was not new to injuries. Right from the initial stages of his ATP career, he has been battling physical injuries. Besides undergoing four right knee surgeries, del Potro dealt with multiple wrist surgeries and continued his determination to play tennis.
