Phil Mickelson Recently Had the Wittiest Response to a Tricky Tiger Woods Question From a Reporter

Over the course of his entire career, Phil Mickelson’s name has been connected to Tiger Woods on several occasions. The two golf icons have been dominating since the 90s, winning multiple events throughout the years. Of course, their highs and lows need not have lined up, both having been active for decades together.

However, their careers have never stopped people from comparing or speaking of the two. Moreover, Mickelson and Woods did not even start off as friends. Rivals at first, their relationship has only now become amicable. More recent interactions involve fun trash talk over bitter remarks; an indication of mutual respect.

Having said that, this doesn’t give either an escape from questions about the other. After all, their current relations are a result of their past rivalry.

How did Phil Mickelson handle a Tiger Woods question?

While in Dubai, Mickelson was asked a specific question about Woods. As mentioned, the two are often questioned about each other as a result of their careers and the rivalry shared. This time, Mickelson was asked about Woods’ maiden Masters win in 1997, and whether he watched it later after he was cut that very event.

The 51-year-old icon, who is known for his charming personality, had the perfect witty response. “Thank you for bringing it about that I missed the cut that week,” he said. “I felt like that was a really critical part of the question.”

Post his initial response, Mickelson did get to answering the question in detail.

Did Mikelson like Woods’ performance?

And then, the man who has only missed three cuts in 29 career Masters starts, gave a great answer as well. “What I get out of that week as I remember and look back on Tiger’s first win in the ’97 Masters is how he shot 40 on the front nine and he turned it around and shot 30 on the back nine on Thursday,” explained.

As per Mickelson, Woods fought and stuck around after a bad start. There were expectations of him, and he did not back down after shooting 40 on the front nine. Eventually, Woods won that even by around 12 shots, and made it one of the ‘most impressive’ performances in golf.WATCH THIS STORY: WHEN TIGER WOODS PREDICTED HIS CAREER DECLINE IN GOLF

On his end, Mickelson last played the Farmers Insurance Open, missing the cut. As for Woods, he continues to recover, only recently returning to play the PNC Championship with his son.
