Conversations With Friends trailer: Steamy relationships to rival Normal People revealed in sizzling teaser for Sally Rooney adaptation

The first trailer for the highly-anticipated adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel Conversations With Friends has finally arrived, teasing steamy encounters that could rival Normal People.
The upcoming BBC Three series stars Alison Oliver as Frances, a 21-year-old college student, who – along with her best friend and ex-girlfriend Bobbi (Sasha Lane) – crosses paths with a couple who will have a huge impact on their lives.
While performing spoken word poetry together in Dublin, Frances and Bobbi meet writer Melissa (Jemima Kirke), who is intrigued by the two friends, as well as her husband Nick (Joe Alwyn), an actor.
Sparks fly immediately, as shown in the trailer, as Melissa and Bobbi find themselves drawn to one another, flirting out in the open for everyone to see.
However, behind the scenes, Frances and Nick also forge an unexpected connection, resulting in them becoming embroiled in a covert, lustful affair.
In the teaser, it’s immediately made clear how close Frances and Bobbi are, as they perform their spoken word poetry to a captivated audience, including Melissa.

While at the bar, Melissa has a twinkle in her eye as she makes their acquaintance, before the friends end up sharing a meal at Melissa’s home with her husband, Nick.
Despite his reserved demeanour, Nick gazes at Frances while they’re both attending an event, with neither of them able to hide the interest they have in one another.

Catching eyes while swimming in the sea, Frances remarks to Bobbi in another scene that Melissa and Nick ‘look good together’, perhaps trying to hide the attraction she feels for him.
Bobbi appears to give her friend a knowing look, before it quickly transpires that Frances and Nick end up embarking on a sexual relationship.
‘There’s nothing else I should know about?’ Melissa asks, as Frances says to Nick: ‘Does that make us bad people?’

Conversations with Friends was the debut novel published by Sally in 2017, before Normal People came out the following year.
Just like the adaptation of Normal People with Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar Jones, fans of the books are excited to see the book characters come to life, in the show on which Sally is an executive producer.
Conversations With Friends is due to premiere on BBC Three and Hulu this May.
