Amongst the hundreds of visitors attending the show, one guest left expert Fergus intrigued with her mysterious canister, which she revealed she brought along as an “afterthought”.
Upon first spotting the canister, Fergus asked the guest: “On the face of it, this looks like a rather bland cream coloured pot. No colour, quite dull isn’t it?”
Laughing at his comments, the guest explained: “It was my gran’s and when she died, my mum popped it in the bottom of the kitchen cupboard.
Fergus continued: “And had you noticed that it has these portraits? There is a portrait of a rather regal looking gentleman.
“And on the reverse, there is another portrait of a lady this time, ever thought who they might be?”
Bemused at the question, she replied: “I just thought it looked like one of the kings?”
“Well, I know who they are,” Fergus said, before revealing: “This is a portrait of King George III and it’s surrounded by this wonderful border, really high quality.
“So it might surprise you if I told you that it would have no trouble at all making £2,500 to £3,000.”
