Netflix’s latest offering, Inventing Anna, has gripped viewers across the world since it dropped on February 11.
The streaming platform’s nine-episode limited series was created by Shonda Rhimes, a producer you might recognize from Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Bridgerton and more.
It tells the true story of Anna Sorokin, who famously conned her way into New York’s high society by pretending to be an heiress named Anna Delvey.
The story about the wealthy fraudster was also an expensive one to tell, as Netflix paid Sorokin a hefty fee to obtain the rights to her story.
But, what is the show about, how much did Netflix pay Anna and what’s her net worth now?

Inventing Anna is about Anna Sorokin, who claimed to be a German-born heiress with a hefty trust fund.

Under the fake name of Anna Delvey, she was able to con banks, hotels and acquaintances into giving her substantial loans until she got caught.
In 2019, she was found guilty of scamming people out of hundreds of thousands of dollars as she got convicted on multiple counts of larceny and theft, which landed her with four to 12 years behind bars.
She later got released early for good behaviour a year ago, in February 2021.
Soon after, Immigration and Customs Reinforcement (ICE) detained her for overstaying her visa. Anna refused to be deported back to Germany, so she remains in ICE custody in New York’s Orange County Jail.
How much did Anna Delvey get paid for the Netflix series?
According to Insider, Netflix paid Sorokin around £236,000 ($320,000) to obtain the rights to adapt her life story into a TV series.
Anna reportedly approximately £147,298 ($199,000) of this money to settle her debts with the banks and £17,764 ($24,000) to pay state fines.

Additionally, her attorney fees cost her £55,514 ($75,000).
Sorokin’s funds were originally frozen in May 2019 using the ‘Son of Sam’ law, which aims to prevent criminals from profiting from their crimes.
However, because Anna was willing to pay off her victims, the judge unfroze her bank accounts and let her access the remaining money from the Netflix deal shortly before her release from prison.
What is Anna Sorokin’s net worth?
It’s not clear – but it’s not likely to be very high.
Given the fact that Anna was paid around £236,000 by Netflix and ended up spending over £220,000 of it to pay her attorneys and settle her debts, there probably wasn’t a whole lot left over.
Little is known, however, about the specifics of her current financial situation, or her deal with Netflix.
