“I Have a Shot”: Mikaela Shiffrin Shows Confidence to Clinch Podium Place in Her Last and Final Event at Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, Despite Four Losses
Out of the four events that Mikaela Shiffrin has taken part in, she crashed out in two and finished way below the podium thereafter. However, there is one more event for her. The combined competition offers her the best chance of winning a medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. The disappointment of not retaining her medals is there, but the combined event is a chance for her to win.
She spoke to NBC after the downhill race. The downhill competition saw her putting in a good run in training but could not muster up a brilliant performance. Hence, Shiffrin hopes to get back to winning ways.
Mikaela Shiffrin thinks she has a shot
When speaking to the reporter after the race, she looked much more relaxed and getting used to the surroundings. Her pre-Olympics training sessions were not up to the mark according to her and that is being shown in Beijing. Hence, it would be important for her to regain her focus back and go full throttle for the combined event. Shiffrin spoke about the tough competitions but believes herself to have a good go in the event.
“I mean, we’ll see. There is a couple of women who have a really good shot for strong downhill runs and also really strong slalom runs. I don’t feel that anything is guaranteed. Not at all, especially not for, after the last couple of weeks, but, I think I have a shot and that’s really nice. So I will go for it and we will see,” said Shiffrin.

Hence, the Olympics is not done yet. And arguably, the combined is the best chance for her to win an Olympic medal. The 2021 World Championships saw her doing what she needs to do in the upcoming event.
2021 World Champion
After winning the gold medal at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics for the slalom event, she repeated that performance in Pyeongchang in 2018; winning the gold medal for giant slalom. Now, it is her best event that she won the medal during the World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Claiming her sixth world title for the combined event, she took home her first gold medal for the event.
Heading to the Beijing Winter Olympics, this may be the competition that can finally kick-start her Olympic dream. Hence, it would be a great watch for everyone involved to see Shiffrin getting the gold medal. Can she do it?
