Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden furious as entrepreneur lets slip nickname: ‘Did you just call me Deb?’

Dragons’ Den’s Deborah Meaden was less than impressed when one hopeful entrepreneur accidentally called her ‘Deb’ during his pitch in scenes that aired on Thursday night.
Steven was hoping to win an investment of £80,000 with a five per cent share from either Peter Jones, Touker Suleyman, Sara Davies, Steven Bartlett or Deborah for his cycling business when he stumbled over the mogul’s name… twice.
As he started reeling off the figures regarding his sales, Steven mistakenly called the powerhouse Deb after initially calling her Debbie.
Deborah instantly recoiled, however, and wasted no time in calling the potential client out.
‘Did you just call me Deb?’ she slammed.
‘Deborah, sorry,’ Steven apologised.

‘Just so you know, you started off with a Debbie, you got away with it once,’ she pointed out. ‘Now you’ve shortened it to Deb.
‘If you call me D, you’re going to be out of those lift doors faster than you can say Deborah.’
‘Thank you, Deborah,’ he replied, awkwardly. ‘Apologies.’
Despite slipping up over Deborah’s name, Steven did manage to win over both Sara and Touker with an investment into his business.
‘You don’t want an investor, you want a business partner,’ Sara explained, just seconds after Steven had mispronounced her name. Yep, really.
‘I agree with that,’ he said.

Eventually, he walked away with two new business partners in Sara and Touker, as well as £80,000 in the company account.
Not bad going, all things considered.
