Eddie Izzard has been jealous of girls that developed breasts in their younger years since her teens.

The star has spoken out on whether she would like a fuller chest in an interview with The Guardian, saying she has wanted to look more feminine for a long time.

She said: ‘I’ve had boob envy since my teens. Just when teenage girls of my age were going “I want boobs”, I was thinking yeah me too. But I couldn’t say it.

‘They talk about penis envy, and I believe some women suffer penis envy. I cannot for the life of me get my head around this.

‘But yes, I’ve always had breasts envy.’

However, Izzard does believe her features are softening but is not willing to comment on whether she is taking hormone pills.

She said: ‘I’m very happy to transition and I feel I have been transitioning. But I do feel I’ve told everybody everything in my life, so I’m going to keep a certain amount of privacy.’

In December, the stand-up, 59, announced she wanted to use ‘she’ and ‘her’ pronouns and intended to be ‘based in girl mode’ going forward.

The declaration was made as a passing comment a few months earlier during a recording of Sky Arts television show Portrait Artist of The Year when she was asked what pronouns she preferred.

Izzard responded ‘she and her’ without a second thought but, when the programme aired, the statement became headline news to the star’s surprise.

The activist first announced she was trans to The Hollywood Reporter in 2017.

Izzard had previously said she wanted the freedom to be in ‘boy mode’ some of the time but later decided this wasn’t right.

The star is currently working on a new Netflix adaptation of Harlen Coben’s thriller Stay Closer in Manchester and is playing a male role.

While working on this project, Izzard suggested people use the pronouns ‘he’ and ‘him’ but found it was not taken lightly.

She said: ‘As I’m playing a male role, I suggested people should go back to calling me he and him for this, and what the world seems to have said to me is you can change your pronouns but you can’t use he and him as well.

‘You’ve just got to be she and her from now on because we’ve only got so much time on our hands, thank you very much,’ adding that using female pronouns ‘feels like a promotion’.

Izzard first came out as a transvestite in 1985 and said it wasn’t about dressing in dresses and heels but simply identifying as female.

She says she saw being a transvestite as being transgender without transitioning and that she first identified as transgender at the age of four.

Izzard, who stars in World War II drama Six Minutes to Minute alongside Dame Judi Dench, is also an endurance runner and in January raised £300,000 for charity by doing 32 virtual marathons and 31 stand-up gigs in 31 days.
