America has sat up and taken notice of ‘remarkably brave’ Alex Beresford after he challenged Piers Morgan live on Good Morning Britain.

The weatherman and TV presenter became the focus of widespread Stateside praise after he stood up for Meghan Markle during a heated exchange with Piers – who later unceremoniously quit the morning breakfast show.

In a new column for The Los Angeles Times, culture columnist and critic Mary McNamara commended the 40-year-old for speaking out on behalf of the Duchess of Sussex – even if that meant ‘facing a senior colleague’s on-air wrath’.

She even addressed Piers’ claims of Meghan ‘ghosting’ him years earlier, writing: ‘This is something many people knew, but only Beresford had the guts to say…

‘Even if she intentionally or inadvertently hurt your feelings, Piers, that does not give you the right to tear her down on multiple media platforms on a near-daily basis.’

During Tuesday’s programme, Alex defended Prince Harry and Meghan following their tell-all Oprah interview during his discussion with Piers.

‘I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one, and she cut you off,’ he said at the time.

‘She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.’

Piers stormed out of the studio at this point, saying: ‘I’m done with this. Sorry. You can trash me, mate, but not on my own show.’

ITV later released a statement announcing Piers had permanently left Good Morning Britain.

‘Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,’ it read. ‘ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.’

Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles was one of the many Americans to applaud Alex, writing on Instagram: ‘They better not come for Alex for telling the truth!!!!!’

She slammed Piers in the same post, saying: ‘So Piers Morgan stormed off because he can dish it out but he can’t take it!!!!

‘Is he 5 years old or what!!!!!!! No concern for Archie whatsoever!!! Looks to me like he’s saying. “How dare this black man reprimand me . On national tv. Only I can do that”.

‘He is showing his true colours literally!!!!’ she added.

Other Statesiders couldn’t get enough of Alex following the turn of events, with The Circle’s Chris Sapphire tweeting: ‘Thank you good folk of the UK for introducing us all to Alex Beresford!!!

‘I’m 100% sure there’s a good chance for wet conditions in my forecast!’
