Saturday Night Takeaway viewers were left emotional and then in hysterics after two mums were told the news they were going to become grandmas live on TV.

Ant and Dec played a guessing game with their celebrity panel – which included guest announcer Michelle Visage – where two lots of three girls had to reveal a secret about their mum and the panel had to work out which was true and told by the real daughter.

Once the game had finished, Ant and Dec brought both mums up on the video link to reveal another surprise – they’d actually been there to find out they were about to become grandparents.

Dec Donnelly told them: ‘Let’s say thanks to both the mums, let’s bring them back. Pat and Brenda, thank you so much ladies .

‘But before we let you go girls, we’ve got one last Mother’s Day surprise for the pair of you.’

Ant McPartlin added: ‘We’ve been rejoined by Pat’s daughter Rachel and they’ve got one more statement they want to make to their mams, and mams, this one is definitely true… ok ladies, it’s over to you.’

Both daughters then said in unison: ‘You’re going to be a grandma!’, as their mums watched on via video link.

While Pat was instantly overcome with emotion, Brenda was a bit more subdued as she took in the news.

Dec joked: ‘I think Brenda’s pleased, she looks furious but I think she’s pleased!’, while Ant added: ‘That’s just her face.’

The mums were then told they were also being gifted a seven-night five-star holiday to Malta when it is safe to travel, the news of which had Brenda screaming and waving her hands in the air, leading viewers to think that she was more excited by the holiday than the prospect of a new grandchild on the way.

Viewers joked: ‘Brenda was more happy about the holiday than the grandkid’ and ‘I love that Brenda is clearly happier about the holiday than she is that she’s going to be a grandma.’

Others added: ‘Brenda is an instant meme isn’t she’ and ‘Brenda looks absolutely furious to find out her daughter is pregnant on TV.’

Saturday Night Takeaway airs from 7pm on ITV on Saturdays.
