I ‘hate my husband of 16 years’ who fathered my daughters – marriage is completely deluded but I’m not getting divorced

A MOTHER of two says she “hates her husband” in her memoir about marriage.

Journalist Heather Havrilesky wrote a book titled Foreverland: On the Divine Tedium of Marriage, which was recently released.

The 51-year-old, who shared her 12-year-old and 15-year-old daughters with her husband of 16 years, called marriage a “funny thing,” according to the Daily Mail.

She referred to her husband Bill as “a pointy Lego brick underfoot,” “a smelly heap of laundry,” and a “snoring heap of meat.”

Havrilesky called marriage “completely deluded to set out to try to stay with the same person until you’re dead.”

But she doesn’t plan on getting divorced.

Growing up with divorced parents who fought, Havrilesky said she grew up idealizing marriage, like the relationships portrayed by Disney princesses.

The author has written three other books.

She wanted to write an honest memoir after claiming to want to “throw marriage books across the room” because they didn’t feel real, according to the Daily Mail.

She starts the book by noting that marriage is a book about mortality since the success of a marriage is defined by death rather than happiness or good fortune.

Halfway through writing the book, she confessed she thought she was making a mistake by writing it after seeing her husband and children’s reactions and grew concerned about how much to reveal.

But her husband ultimately said he “doesn’t care” what people think about him.

ACCEPTANCE

In one chapter, Havrilesky wrote it took her a decade to accept who her husband was and that she couldn’t change him.

She even confessed to her husband that she had a crush on another writer.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer and noted how supportive her husband was through her treatment.

“I hate it when people say their husband is their best friend but he is my best friend, my therapist, and my mother in one,” she said according to the Daily Mail.
