Colby Covington Reveals Jorge Masvidal Showed His True Character With Comments Involving His Mother

UFC 272: Jorge Masvidal versus Colby Covington is one of the most anticipated fight cards this year. The main event is a borderline welterweight super fight. Given their history of brotherhood and friendship, this fight means breaking down everything that their relationship once stood for. 

Just a couple of days away from one of the biggest welterweight fights in recent times, the two fighters have been going at it like crazy on the press junkets. 1v1 interviews and personal interviews have seen the emergence of new details and secrets that these two held in their friendship throughout the years. 

In an interview for ESPN with Brent Okamoto, Covington divulged details of when he thought he was eventually going to fight Masvidal. In his words, Masvidal had once admitted that he’d fight his own mother for the right amount of money. 

Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal – The point of no return

Covington had this to say about him with references to Masvidal fighting his close ones for money. “Everybody wants to see you doing well, but as soon as they’re doing better than you, then it’s a problem. So it was a problem when I started doing better than him. I beat a guy, Demian Maia, who he had just lost to, and he realized we were right in line to fight each other, and you know?”

He further added, “He even told me after I got back, he’s like, ‘Hey man, you know, like if we gotta fight you know, I’ll just let you know, I’d fight my mother for money. So it’s just so ironic. He doesn’t talk to his mother, so it’s just funny that he says it like that.”

Where did it start, and where will it end? 

Both fighters have their own accounts of who was in the wrong for their personal matters in this context. Both of them seem to think that they’re right in their own way. 

Seemingly at an impasse, there seems to be no other option apart from having to drag their strained friendship into the public eye and turning it into a full-blown feud.
