I’m a personal stylist for mums & this is what to wear on the school run & three items you NEED in your wardrobe

MORNINGS can be extremely busy for mums, with just minutes to get both themselves and their kids packed and ready for school.

This rush can often lead to mothers grabbing the nearest T-shirt and leggings to drop their offspring off at the school gates.

But if you want to swap the laidback loungewear for something a little more stylish, Jennifer Jones, a personal stylist for mums, has revealed the steps you can take to help make mornings easier.

“Thinking of new outfit ideas when you’re in a rush isn’t ideal,” she explained.

“If you can, I’d recommend getting out what you’re going to wear the night before.”

It’s a good idea as well to try and “mindfully choose something different” to wear on a daily basis – so “you don’t feel like you’re always opting for the same outfit each day”.

“It’ll also help you wear more of your wardrobe!” she added.

And as for exactly what you should have in your wardrobe, there are three items Jennifer cites as essential for a stylish school run.

First up, a “practical but stylish coat that goes with everything – trousers, jeans, skirts and dresses”.

“Often my clients have coats that only work with trousers and then they’re limited with what they can wear that day,” she explained.

Next, a good pair of jeans.

“The right fitting jeans will make you feel amazing whenever you put them on so it’s worth spending the time to get these absolutely spot on,” she said.

And thirdly, invest in a comfy throw on dress – one “you can wear on a casual day and a smart day that goes with boots, trainers, flats and sandals”.

“You can’t go wrong with one of these!” she smiled.

And when it comes to accessories, Jennifer is a big fan of having a stylish, staple handbag – which can transform any ensemble.

“You could be wearing joggers and a jumper, but when paired with a gorgeous bag, you will look effortlessly stylish,” she said.

Another accessory Jennifer loves is a lightweight scarf.

“A scarf that you can casually wrap around is perfect for when you want to spruce up your look with more colour or just look more put together,” she explained.

As for Jennifer’s ideal school run outfit?

“I’m a lover of dresses so I’d go for a maxi shirt dress, blazer, tights and chunky boots (or trainers in the spring/summer), layered gold necklace, my everyday small gold hoop earrings, leopard print lightweight scarf (leopard print is another favourite of mine!), and cross body bag,” she said.
