I’m a travel expert – the only luggage space-saving TikTok trick that works and the one you’re all missing out on
TRAVEL experts and savvy TikTokers have flooded the platform with tricks and tips showing viewers how to fit as many clothing items on board with them as they can.
However, not all hacks are created equally, and travel experts revealed what methods actually work.

BIGGER ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER
Bigger isn’t always better when it comes to pillows, according to Naveen Dittakavi, founder and CEO of Next Vacay, in an interview with Insider.
He noted this in regard to a TikToker who gushed about her hack that instructs people to simply stuff as much as they can into a normal-sized pillowcase to bring on board.
“Most airlines will allow you to bring a travel pillow as part of your attire, but each airline will determine if you can board carrying a standard-sized bed pillow, depending on their luggage regulations,” he said.
Therefore, it’s best to consult the airline you’re using to familiarize yourself with their carry-on regulations so your packing job doesn’t go wasted.
STUFFING YOUR POCKETS IS SUPER OBVIOUS
A woman who calls herself “the queen of budget travel,” @imogenblow, claimed she saved about 12 pounds in her suitcase thanks to her clothing hack.
Her trick is simple.

It’s to simply layer clothes inside a jacket and hang it over your arm like one normally would to not look suspicious.
Unfortunately, Tom Church, co-founder of latestdeals.co.uk, told Insider the hack is super risky, as the coat can get too big to fit under the seat.
“Carrying items of this size onto a plane doesn’t seem very practical,” he said.
“It would be better to ask yourself if you really need so many clothes when you have to lug them around like this.”
LUMPY NECK PILLOWS WON’T BE PLEASANT
Neck pillows were invented to help support the neck and head while in a neutral position, but they are notoriously used for travel to help folks prevent sore necks on long flights.
However, TikTokers have come up with a new use for them: a mobile closet.
A TikToking traveler revealed she created a DIY neck pillow out of her clothes, and it got her on a Ryanair, a low-cost Irish airline, plane with no penalties.
The video she posted showed her placing layers of clothes on top of a thick sweater and then rolling the sweater up.
She tied the sleeves around her neck, and voila: she had a DIY neck pillow that doubled as clothing storage.
While the trick worked for her on this one trip, Dittakavi told Insider people shouldn’t get their hopes up about the hack.
Some airlines will only allow one personal item, and they may count the personal item as a neck pillow.
So, it’s definitely a gamble, and it’s up to each individual to determine how big of a risk they’re willing to take.
NOT ALL TRAVEL HACKS ARE A GAMBLE
While the most practical hack analyzed by experts for Insider seemed to be the stuffed pillowcase method, Church said there are better ways to pack so you don’t need to try a hit-or-miss method.
He suggested buying some affordable vacuum-sealed bags, which compresses clothes by sucking all the air out of the bag they’re placed in.
However, it’s important to know that you’ll have a vacuum to use before your journey home, or you might find yourself leaving some things at your vacation spot.
An organization expert shared the same sentiment and previously revealed how to fold every type of clothing so that it takes up the least space possible in your suitcase.
Plus, another travel guru shared that she stores her clothing in a certain pattern, which allows her to fit multiple days of clothing in a small bag.
“I lay the first item on the bed or floor.
“Then I lay the next item rotated 90 degrees on top of that,” she explained.
“I keep rotating 90 degrees and layering until I have everything in a pile.
“I finish with my underwear and socks on top in the middle.
“Then I fold all four corners and shove it in my suitcase.”
