An Arnold Palmer Anecdote From Childhood Narrated by the King Himself: ‘One Day, a Lady by the Name of Helen Fritz, Who Was One of Our Members’

Winning seven major championships is truly amazing to acquire, and Arnold Palmer is among the few professionals to achieve the feat. The King’s just concluded last week at the Bay Hill Lodge and Club. To celebrate the Golf Hall of Fame member, let’s take a trip back down memory lane and relive one of the most iconic childhood stories pertaining to the King himself.

Arnold Palmer’s childhood anecdote

Arnold Palmer has various stories associated with him both on and off-the-course. The King has left a long-lasting effect on the sport of golf. He is among the few professionals whose legacy still lives young in the hearts of each and every golf fan.

Recently, the PGA Tour uploaded a beautiful video containing Arnie’s childhood story on their Twitter account, which he himself was narrating.

He said, “One of the things that I used to do is lay on the side of the tee of the sixth hole. And one day, a lady by the name of Helen Fritz, who was one of our members came up there and she said, Arnie, I’ll give you a nickel. If you drive my ball across the ditch.”

He added, “From then on, I figured that might be a little bit of a way of making some change. So I was there every Tuesday morning when the ladies played.” 

This small anecdote proves how Arnie loved to play golf even at a such young age.

Round two leader at API

Victor Hovland cruised through the golf course in the second round of the event. The young professional carded a round of 66, six-under-par. As a result, leading with a two-shot lead heading into the weekend. His round of 66, included two birdies on the front nine. As a result, he is moving out in two-under-par, 34. He also made five birdies and a single bogey on the back nine at Bay Hill.
