Firefox urgent warning as browser gets huge update – Mozilla alerts users to two critical security vulnerabilities

FIREFOX users have been urged to update their browser as soon as possible after it issued a huge updated and gave a warning about security.

Mozilla issued its latest update of the Firefox browser Tuesday along with new privacy features for its mobile version and emergency update patches for the two critical security vulnerabilities it disclosed Saturday.

In a security advisory, Mozilla warned the two zero-day vulnerabilities were of “critical” severity and actively being exploited by malicious actors.

The flaws, known as use-after-free bugs, could allow a range of security issues if left unpatched – from a program crash to allowing an outside attacker to gain control of the program or your device.

“We have had reports of attacks in the wild abusing this flaw,” the advisory said.

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency added the two Firefox vulnerabilities to its list of known vulnerabilities Monday, giving federal agencies until March 21 to install the fix.

The following day though, Mozilla released the new Firefox 91.7 ESR and Firefox 98.0 versions for download.

Mozilla’s list of February security bugs found in Firefox 97 included several high-level vulnerabilities.

Mozilla has issued three critical security patches for dangerous vulnerabilities in the last three years.

The Firefox 98 version released yesterday includes patches for the recently discovered vulnerabilities and includes privacy-focused features aimed at blocking web trackers.

Mozilla has also issued an HTTPS-only feature for Firefox Focus on Android.

The feature is similar to browser extensions such as HTTPS Everywhere.

It’s easy to update your Firefox browser and usually takes about 30 seconds.

Here’s what you need to do:

Mobile version

The easiest way is to go to your device’s app store, search for Firefox and just download the update from there.

This will give you the latest version possible.

Desktop version

This should work for whatever operating system you use.

Open the Firefox browser and go to the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Firefox menu and select About Firefox.

The About Firefox window will open and should automatically check to see if any updates are available for your browser.

A new update for Firefox should begin downloading automatically.

Once its complete just click Restart. For MacOS users, you will need to fully exit Firefox and quit the program, then restart Firefox to get the updates to take effect.

If you’re having any problems with the automatic downloads and updates just download the latest Firefox from Mozilla’s official site.
