Bridgerton season 2: Scandal reigns in new trailer as Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley fight their feelings

Dearest reader…Bridgerton is very almost here!
Netflix has dropped the trailer for season two of the wildly popular period drama, and this time it’s Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) who’s on the hunt for a wife as we return to the ton.
He sets his sights on Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran) but he must first win over her sister Kate (Simone Ashley).
However, things start to get complicated very quickly with Kate.
Meanwhile, Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) has become obsessed with the idea of trapping the mysterious and scandal-loving writer Lady Whistledown.
Basically, it’s all kicking off yet again and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
The newly released clip starts with Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) less than subtly announcing: ‘This is the season the viscount intends to find a wife’.

And Anthony’s intentions are questioned as he insists: ‘It’s only out of the greatest love for my family that I intend to find a wife with my head and not with my…heart.’
However, ignoring the heart is a tricky business, as we discovered in season one (come on guys, have we learnt nothing?!).
Speaking of which, Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) is back with words of wisdom, telling us: ‘It is a poor player who plays the game and a wise one who plays their opponent.’
Also coming through with words of wisdom is Lady Whistledown, as Kate starts to struggle with her feelings for Anthony
‘What happens when duty is in conflict with the heart’s true desire?’ she asks.

‘Why then, there is the potential for a considerable scandal indeed.’
Now that’s what we like to hear.
The period romance series smashed records for the streaming service when it was originally released at Christmas 2020, with over 110 million views in just a few weeks.
Most of the cast members from the original series are returning – but with the story moving on to focus on Anthony – brother of season one’s main character Daphne.
Sex Education’s Simone also joins the show, taking centre stage as his potential bride Kate – while you can expect to see the return of Nicola Coughlan, Polly Walker, Golda Rosheuvel and of course Dame Julie Andrews.
Cast newcomers Charithra, as Kate’s feisty sister Edwina, and Merlin star Rupert Young, playing a character named Jack – who has a mysterious connection to one of the ton’s most notable families.

However one person you won’t be seeing is Rege-Jean Page – one of the breakout stars of season one – his character Simon Basset is not featured in season 2, with his departure from the show confirmed in April 2021.
‘While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,’ Netflix said as they confirmed the news.
‘We’ll miss Simon’s presence on-screen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.’
Bridgerton season 2 starts streaming on Netflix from March 25.
