My neighbor’s barking dog never shuts up and I’ve gone to drastic lengths to get rid of it – what are my rights?

A DESPERATE homeowner has begged for advice about her neighbor’s barking dog that “never shuts up”.

The frustrated Reddit user explained they have gone to drastic lengths to try and get rid of it, but nothing seems to have worked.

Despite the resident realizing the noise levels aren’t the rowdy pooch’s fault, they have been outraged by the “oblivious” owner.

They turned to the discussion website in a last-ditch attempt to gain some guidance in regards to the noisy dog next door.

User @omglifeisnotokay explained they have “already called police, animal control (fined), left notes, and I occasionally have screamed out the window for them to shut the dog up.”

But despite their protests, the writer claimed the white Maltipoo “never shuts ups and barks at everything.”

The post continued: “The woman is pregnant with kid number 5 and I’ve noticed it’s been barking more and more.

“I’m hoping they get rid of it. Not much I can do since it’s a privately owned townhouse. Just so sick of this stupid dog and sh***y owners.”

The author then blamed some of the dog’s constant barking on its lazy owner seemingly refusing to care for it correctly.

They added: “It’s very frustrating and knowing it won’t stop just adds to more problems.

“The dog is inside but seems to be wanting to go outside for a walk but nobody is home or nobody wants to walk it.

“The other dogs around us are dead quiet. Just such a shame. One time it escaped and ran off into the neighborhood.

“The dad of the daughter who’s pregnant told the neighbor who complained that his daughter is oblivious. I guess she’s some Ig influencer.”

Well-informed Redditers encouraged the homeowner to keep up with her complaints, while others shared their own stories of noise issues.

One commented: “I would keep calling the police and animal control. I would think eventually they would take the animal.”

Another asked: “Are you willing to confront?

“Go pound on their door when it’s barking. Tell them you will call animal control to fine them every single time. Call your local sheriff about pressing charges for disturbing the peace.

“Call or knock every single time the dog’s bark. Becoming more annoying than the dogs is the key. As long as you’re less obnoxious than the dogs she will just ignore you.”

BARK’S WORSE THAN BITE

While another urged the homeowner: “Please just try to remember that it’s not the dog’s fault that his people are complete lazy idiots.”

A fourth chimed in: From the neighbor’s perspective, it isn’t a problem until it is a problem for them.

“When it becomes a problem for them, they will do something about it.”

It is important to double-check the law in your specific state, but residents have a right to complain about noisy pets.

If the relationship with your neighbor has broken down, the next step may be to file a lawsuit and seek injunctive relief – a court order requiring the owner to keep the dog quiet.

You can also sue for damages and financial losses due to the disturbance, such as diminished property value or lost tenants.
