The mercury topped 16C in Bedford, London, the south coast and much of Norfolk – smashing the Spanish party island which is currently 14C.

The lovely weather has been enough to tempt beachgoers out onto Blackpool beach where one lady was spotted braving the water with a bodyboard.

While runners in Newcastle were spotted out for a jog down the River Tyne as they enjoyed the Spring sunshine.

And tourists also made the most of the balmy 15C in Cambridge as they flocked to the River Cam for a spot of punting.

Smiling faces pushed themselves along The Backs in the picturesque university town as the sun beat down on the water.

A Met Office spokesperson told The Sun Online how the unseasonable weather has been brought up by winds from southern Spain.

But rain and blustery winds are forecast tomorrow and unsettled conditions over the weekend – dampening spirits over the coming days.

Tonight will see cloud and patchy light rain moving northwards across some parts, with heavy rain reaching the far southwest later, according to the Met Office.

Friday will see patchy rain clear northern and eastern parts to leave brighter spells in its wake.

Heavy rain is expected to fall in southwestern areas and it will gradually move north-eastwards across most parts.

And further bad news for Brits as the weekend is also expected to be unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain.

Friday will see highs of 10C in London, 10C in Manchester, 9C in Plymouth and 9C in Newcastle.

While Saturday will see the mercury rise slightly with 12C forecast in south eastern areas and 11C in the north west.

Average temperatures of between 9C and 11C are forecast across much of the UK on Sunday.

A Met Office spokesperson told The Sun Online: “Thursday will be a generally cloudy, mild and frost free night.

“It will be a wet and windy day on Friday.

“While it will be more in the way of warmer spells on Saturday and into the afternoon.

“But it will be fairly changeable across the UK throughout the weekend.”

The weather expert added how Northern Ireland will be hit with outbreaks of rain while south western parts of the UK will see milder weather.
